Today we’d like to introduce you to Joi Gregor.
Joi, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My story started after an injury that left me with a torn meniscus and ruptured ACL.
Being that I’m an avid traveler and international backpacker I wanted to be sure I was doing everything I could to achieve a full recovery. I was given two options: 1. having an arthroscopic surgery followed by rehab and training or 2. A full ACL replaced. I decided to avoid major surgery and go with my first option, and because I knew this was going to be something I’d have to do for the rest of my life, I decided to become a Corrective Exercises Specialist to have the knowledge to continue my rehab indefinitely.
Over the first few months of my training not only was I achieving great results with my rehabilitation, I started to notice my body transforming and getting stronger. Others did too and started to seek my help, so I acquired my CPT. Leaving my Career as a PA to become a CPT was never planned, but I fell in love with the fitness industry and knew it was what I was supposed to be doing with my life.
Over the next few months, I partnered up with a nutritionist & motivational coach to seek future results for my clients and myself by changing the way we eat, focusing on getting more sleep and working towards a more positive mindset. And all I can say is Wow, What a difference living a healthy lifestyle has been. If you take care of your body, it will definitely take care of you.
With proper sleep, I woke up every morning excited for the new day. With proper nutrition, I had more energy to handle, no dominate, my busy schedule and more. With choosing to see & focus on the good in situations I had a new positive attitude which had such an amazing effect on my life overall.
Since my injury and without my left ACL being replaced, I have successfully backpacked six countries and the Grand Canyon, and I have no intentions of stopping anytime soon.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Any life-changing journey will have it’s up & downs, but for me, the biggest obstacle was finding the proper support team. When I first started my own fitness journey I knew one thing, I had to stop being who I was to become who I wanted to be.
I had to be more conscious of what I was eating, how I was spending my time and most importantly who I was spending it with. I can’t express how important it is to have the right support team to help hold you accountable and motivate you through your journey. And I had to realize that simply because I was ready to change, didn’t mean the people around me were.
So I reached out to others in the community, and I have been very fortunate to find my fitness family. I always recommend to my new clients just starting out to join one of my group classes. It’s a great way to meet people on your same journey and with the right group of people to keep you in a positive mindset & help you stay on track you are guaranteed to see the change you’ve been looking for.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My grandmother was my role model. She actually passed away the day before I injured myself which lead to me becoming a trainer. I like to believe it was through her divine intervention I was injured that day because she always wanted the best for me and that injury is what put me on the right path.
Growing up my grandmother had a beautiful garden. We would usually go over on Sundays after church and help pick vegetables out of the garden for Sunday dinners. The whole family would get together, cousins, uncles, aunts. I remember my sisters and cousins running around her property playing hide and seek half the time instead of picking veggies like we were supposed to but the corn was so high you were playing hide and seek even if you weren’t trying.
I would always just lay in the garden and stare up at the sky; it was so peaceful and a great hiding spot. Spending time with the whole family and my grandma’s cooking is definitely my favorite childhood memory.
