Today we’d like to introduce you to Ernesto Ugeziwe
Hi Ernesto, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started my journey in Rwanda as a media personality, where I had the opportunity to work for different media houses as well as East African Promoters (EAP), one of the leading event and promotion companies in East Africa. This experience allowed me to connect with audiences and contribute to the growth of the entertainment industry in the region.
Seeking to expand my horizons, I moved to the United States and joined Voice of America in Washington, DC, as a journalist. My time at VOA sharpened my skills in storytelling and global communication, covering important stories that reached audiences worldwide.
Now, I’m proud to be the co-founder of AfroHub Music Entertainment, a startup based in Phoenix, Arizona. At AfroHub, we’re focused on promoting African culture and music, bridging the gap between Africa and the diaspora. This journey from Rwanda to the U.S. has been driven by a passion for media and a commitment to showcasing African talents on a global stage.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has certainly not been smooth. Like any journey, mine has been filled with challenges and learning experiences. Moving from Rwanda to the United States was a significant transition, both personally and professionally. Adapting to a new culture, navigating the complexities of immigration, and establishing myself in a competitive industry were all tough hurdles to overcome.
Starting AfroHub Music Entertainment presented its own set of challenges. Building a startup from the ground up, especially one focused on promoting African culture in a foreign market, required perseverance, creativity, and a strong network of support. There were moments of doubt, but the passion for sharing African music and culture kept us going.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As a co-founder of AfroHub Music Entertainment, I specialize in promoting African culture, music, and entertainment, particularly in the diaspora. My work involves organizing events, managing artists, and creating platforms that connect African creatives with global audiences. We also work with American creatives who want to expand their work to Africa.
What I’m most proud of is our ability to foster a vibrant community that celebrates African talent and culture. Through AfroHub, we’ve been able to host numerous events in different US cities that are known to have a remarkable Diaspora audience. Such as Phoenix, Dallas, Boston and Washington DC.
What sets me apart is my unique blend of experience in media and event promotion, coupled with my journey. This perspective allows me to navigate different cultural contexts with ease, and I bring a deep understanding of both African and global entertainment landscapes. My commitment to authenticity and quality in everything we do at AfroHub ensures that our work not only entertains but also educates and inspires.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I like best about Phoenix is the vibrant and diverse community. The city has a welcoming atmosphere and a strong appreciation for different cultures, which aligns perfectly with our mission at AfroHub to promote African music and culture. The energy in Phoenix is contagious, and it’s exciting to be part of a growing creative scene that embraces innovation and new ideas.
On the flip side, what I like least is the extreme heat during the summer. It can be challenging to navigate daily life and organize events when the temperatures soar, but it’s something we’ve learned to work around. Despite that, Phoenix offers so much in terms of opportunity and community that it far outweighs the challenges.
