Today we’d like to introduce you to Cameron Call.
Cameron, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was first introduced to chiropractic care in college when I got a job as a chiropractic assistant. I was blown away by the people I saw coming in and getting relief without the use of drugs or surgery. I quickly knew it was what I wanted to do as my career. However, I also noticed that individuals would come back multiple times a week with the same nagging complaint. They’d come in feeling terrible, walk out shinier than a hundred dollar bill, but then return in the same condition as when they started. It became obvious why chiropractic has the reputation it does in our society. This was really troubling for me.
During this time, my daughter suffered from epilepsy and would have up to 10 seizures a day. Nothing we were doing was helping her. Medicine, diet, activity, etc. The traditional chiropractic adjustments she was receiving wasn’t having any effect on her condition. She never got sick, never got ear infections, but she suffered from intense anxiety and scary seizures. A friend of mine recommended taking her to an upper cervical chiropractor – someone who specializes in the unique relationship between the brain stem and the top two bones in the cervical spine. After one simple adjustment to her atlas she only had 3 seizures the following week. It was a huge and immediate improvement and I knew it was what I needed to do.
I decided to transition from traditional chiropractic care to specialize in upper cervical specific chiropractic care. Rather than focusing on symptoms, I focus on how the nervous system, particularly the brain stem is functioning. By making specific and precise adjustments to the top two bones of the upper neck, we are able to improve and restore neurological function – particularly brain to body communication. This focus allows individuals to find resolution rather than temporary relief to their health conditions.
In Summer 2016, we opened our office at Horizon Chiropractic Center in Ahwatukee. We have been able to help people from all over the state who suffer from things like fibromyalgia, chronic migraines, sciatica, and chronic neck or back pain. We also are blessed to be able to help a lot of individuals with ADHD, on the autism spectrum and other neurodevelopmental disorders. It’s amazing to see what happens in one’s quality of life when they are free of nervous system interference and living life to the fullest.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Even though I grew up in Queen Creek we moved to Ahwatukee not knowing a single person. Opening an office fresh out of chiropractic school in a new area definitely was an adventure. But we have had a wonderful experience immersing ourselves in our community, making new friends, and establishing relationships along the way.
The biggest struggles we experienced was simply getting our name out there letting others know who we were, what we stand for, and who we can help. Joining our local chambers of commerce was a big help in getting to know other business owners. We also offer a lot of community events to foster friendships and encourage people to get out of the house to meet their neighbor – hosting things such as paint nights, meditation workshops, yoga nights, homemade salsa contests, as well as fundraisers for the community and others in need.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Horizon Chiropractic Center – what should we know?
I stand for a world where individuals are empowered to rise above their health challenges and live life to the fullest. Our office specializes in helping individuals reach their highest potential no matter their health condition. We don’t look at labels or focus on symptoms. We focus on function. I’m not your typical chiropractor. Rather than adjusting every single bone in the body, I specialize in only adjusting the atlas and axis – the first two bones in the cervical spine. These two bones have a unique relationship with the brain stem which is the control center for our entire nervous system. In my office, we check for nervous system interference by using computed infrared paraspinal thermography and remove that interference by making specific adjustments to the upper cervical spine only when indicated. The goal of upper cervical chiropractic care is to get people to a point where they do NOT need to be adjusted. We also do not bill insurance. This turns a lot of people away who rely on that. But what it does is it gives us the freedom to take care of the individual without having to jump through any hoops. People can get reimbursed depending on their coverage if that is something they are interested in.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My wife Kristin has been the biggest supporter and cheerleader in opening the office. She has a degree in marketing and advertising and is very skilled in graphic and web design. She has not only sacrificed a ton as we’ve built the brand but she has also played a key role in the look and design of everything we do. I could not have done any of this without her.
