Meet Allyson Iverson-Cannon of Phoenix / Scottsdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allyson Iverson-Cannon.

Hi Allyson, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Pastor David Iverson started nonprofit Extended Hands Food Bank in July 2004 located in Fountain Hills, AZ. In the beginning, we served only 20 families a month and we now serve over 550. We now have expanded to school pantries in the Fountain Hills schools.

David’s granddaughter, Allyson Iverson-Cannon(pictured left), is now the Executive Director and will be named CEO/President in September 2026! Allyson’s husband, Dustin Cannon, is Extended Hands Food Bank’s Operations manager(pictured right)

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There is a lot of faith that is needed in any nonprofit! Without donations, we don’t survive! Pastor David says passion is what drives a nonprofit, without it, it will fail! Summertime is always a struggle for us as snowbirds leave and not as many food drives are happening!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Extended Hands serves 10 zip codes in Fountain Hills, North Scottsdale, Fort McDowell, and Rio Verde! As of July 2026, EHFB serves over 550 families a month. We allow our neighbors to come in once a week and receive bread, produce, meat, deli products, dairy products, and extra snack items! We also have a section for hygiene and household items!

May 2025, we decided to move transition from premade boxes and bags to a client choice grocery store! Now our friends and neighbors have the opportunity to shop for their meals for the week! We pick up perishable donations from local grocery stores and rely on community members, clubs, churches, and other businesses to do food drives for non-perishables!

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Compassion, Integrity, Hope, and Community
