We’re looking forward to introducing you to Marcus Orelias. Check out our conversation below.
Marcus , really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
My mind, body and spirit. Building those three has made me more resilient in my journey building my companies.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Marcus Orelias, and I’m an actor, recording artist, writer, game designer, and founder of R.O.T.U. World LLC, a creative studio that merges music, storytelling, and visual art to build entire universes around original, POC-led narratives. I started my journey in acting after being inspired by the A.C.T. program in San Francisco, where I trained under incredible mentors before expanding into music and multimedia storytelling.
R.O.T.U. World began as a music imprint but evolved into a platform for immersive experiences — from albums and books to games and visual projects — that challenge stereotypes and celebrate imagination. What makes my brand unique is its fusion of cinematic worldbuilding, sci-fi, and cultural authenticity. Every project, whether it’s an album like 20s A Difficult Age or my upcoming series Tales from the 3rd World Age, connects through a shared creative universe.
Right now, I’m working on several new music releases and a video game that push the boundaries of how we experience art.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
What breaks the bonds between people is often misunderstanding, ego, and unspoken pain. Sometimes it’s not even what’s said — it’s what isn’t. When communication fades, when pride replaces empathy, or when people stop seeing each other’s humanity, the threads that connect us begin to fray. Distance doesn’t always start with miles — it starts with silence.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
See it through to the end.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
Where smart people get it wrong today is in thinking that intelligence alone can solve everything. We live in a time where being “right” is valued more than being real, and analysis often outweighs empathy. A lot of brilliant people are missing the emotional and spiritual intelligence that gives meaning to knowledge. They know how to build systems, but not how to heal people.
We’ve mistaken information for wisdom. Smart people chase efficiency, optimization, and algorithms — but sometimes forget intuition, humility, and heart. Just because you can measure something doesn’t mean you understand it.
I think true intelligence is balance — the ability to merge logic with love, data with soul, and progress with purpose. When we remember that, we stop competing to be the smartest in the room and start working to make the world smarter, together.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
Here’s a version that captures your artistic and reflective voice:
⸻
What I understand deeply that most people don’t is that everything is connected. Every win, every loss, every person who crosses your path — it all plays a role in shaping who you become. Nothing is random. Even the pain has purpose.
A lot of people see art, music, or storytelling as entertainment — but I see them as translations of spirit. They’re how we process the unseen, how we bridge the past and future, how we turn chaos into meaning. When you understand that, you stop chasing trends or validation. You start moving with intention.
I’ve learned that legacy isn’t about being remembered — it’s about what you ignite in others. The real work is invisible: the energy you put into the world, the way your story gives someone else permission to believe in theirs.
