Life & Work with Garie Chavez of North Peoria

Today we’d like to introduce you to Garie Chavez.

Hi Garie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
It all started in 1982 when I had just moved to Arizona. I was in a small apartment with no furniture, so I decided to build my own. Fast forward to 2020, I began recovering logs from weathered-down trees that homeowners and tree service companies in metropolitan Phoenix provided. This allowed me to create 100% sustainable, repurposed wood art and custom electric and bass guitars.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Starting a business on your own always has its challenges. There are costs incurred from buying equipment, power tools, supplies, marketing and attending shows. It’s hard work every day. The key to it is have the passion and the love for what you do and the rest will follow. I was always told that you to have prospect every day and reinvent yourself.

What do you do, what do you specialize in?

My art designs include:
– Musical instruments and accessories: custom handmade electric and bass guitars with fractal art and live edge guitar hangers and stands.
– Furniture: live edge dining tables; coffee tables; front entry tables; sofa tables; bar-top tables; end tables; office desks; floating headboards; and shelves.
– Functional art for the home: live edge charcuterie boards; magnetic knife holder, both table-top and wall-mount styles; magnetic firearms holders; cribbage boards; etc.
– Sports memorabilia displays: live edge football holder and baseball bat holders.
– Memorabilia item: live edge guitar fractal wall art, memorial horse heart; abstract wall art; fractal crosses and hearts.

What are you known for?

I make custom handmade guitar hanger and centerpiece fractal art to numerous celebrities and musicians. I made a fractal heart centerpiece to David Foster and Katherine McPhee. Pat Benatar has a charcuterie board and her husband Neil Giraldo has a guitar hanger. Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony, Joe Satriani, Zakk Wylde, George Lynch, Joan Jett, Lita Ford, Don Felder, Kenny Wayne Shephard, Neal Schon, Ed Roland, Alice Cooper, Jimmy Sakurai, Stevie Salas and many more artists have my guitar hanger.

What are you most proud of?

I’m most proud and excited to always give back to the community. I’ve been playing guitar since 1975. Fast forward to 2023, I built my first custom handmade electric guitar. This year, I donated a custom handmade electric guitar to Coopstock annual fundraising event established by musician Alice Cooper to support his Solid Rock Teen Centers. These centers provide free music, art, and vocational training programs for teenagers aged 12 to 20 in Phoenix, Mesa, and Goodyear, Arizona. At the end of the silent auction, the guitar went for $4,400.

I also donate part of the sales of guitar hanger fractal art to Sweet Relief Musicians Fund A 501-C3 nonprofit charity that provides services and financial assistance for all types of career musicians and music industry professionals.

What sets you apart from others?

Patience, persistence, passion and attention to detail are the key ingredients to my work. My goal is for my clients to have a piece of art that they cherish, and know that it is truly one of a kind and made especially for them. Not one art I create uses CNC machine. It’s handmade and made in Arizona.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
Every year, I participate as an exhibitor at the Barrett-Jackson Barrett-Jackson collector car auction show at Westworld in Scottsdale, Arizona. I showcase all my custom handmade fractal art designs work from charcuterie boards to electric and bass guitars.
