Life & Work with Esperanza Scotto

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Esperanza Scotto.

Esperanza Scotto

Hi Esperanza, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
My name is Esperanza Lorena! I grew up on a farm in Eastern Washington in a family of 5. My mother is from Colombia, and my father is Italian/Irish. I grew up speaking Spanish and English! I studied Interior Design in college and worked in that industry for six years before becoming a full-time blogger & content creator, which I have been doing for 7+ years!

While in college, I studied architecture in Florence, Italy, for a summer and fell in love with traveling/Europe. I have been back to Europe several times since then, once through my blog to cover Brussels (Belgium) for Expedia! I’ve also always loved fashion, and these passions are what inspired me to start my blog/socials, The Urban Darling. Being a full-time content creator allowed me the flexibility of moving all over the country. I’ve lived in Portland, Nashville, and Pittsburgh!

I am a new mom to my son, Sage Wylder, who is two months old, and we are currently living in Phoenix, where my parents retired. I love being my own boss and getting to do something creative every day. I am adjusting to being a mom to a newborn and an entrepreneur, but we are figuring it out as we go along together.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
With everything going on in the past few years, it has been a little bumpy for me as a content creator. So much has changed, and you have to constantly adjust, which can be hard to keep up with. I’ve also been going through some personal hardships in my life as my partner of 10 years had been struggling with his mental health, which took a turn for the worse halfway through my pregnancy.

He was a big supporter of mine and a huge part of why I became an entrepreneur. It’s also challenging for me because I have always shared my life very openly with my followers, but I have received so much support during this time. I am a single mom at the moment, so I’ve been going through a lot of big and difficult life changes currently.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe you can tell us more about your work next?
As a lifestyle blogger and content creator, I share anything and everything that I am passionate about: travel, fashion, home, beauty, food, DIY, and more! I don’t like to limit myself to just one category. I would say I am most proud of my travel content.

I work very hard on researching the city beforehand, shooting as much content as possible during my trip, and creating helpful travel guides that share what the cities have to offer. With my background in interior design, I love to highlight restaurants and boutiques with beautiful interiors.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I feel most successful when a business reaches out to me personally, saying how much exposure my blog post has brought them, or when someone reaches out to let me know how useful my travel guide was for them during a trip or that something personal/vulnerable I shared made them feel better.

Knowing that I am helping or inspiring people is what it’s all about for me.
