Today we’d like to introduce you to Brielle Richardson.
Hi Brielle, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Growing up in the 90’s in Washington State my family bred Golden Retrievers throughout my childhood. I assisted my mother in the birth of the puppies and raising them. At an early age I discovered my love for animals and my passion for caring for them. I developed a strong bond with all of our dogs, but there was one male I bonded with the most and I spent countless hours as a child teaching him tricks to perform for my family. My favorites were play dead and pray! My siblings and I would take our dogs on adventures in the dense forests that surrounded our rural home. We would be gone all day in our own world of exploration, coming home just before it got too dark. Our Retrievers were my best friends as a child. They were so loyal, always returning our shoes home from off the neighbors porch or never giving up on finding that tennis ball! I have so many wonderful memories with them.
After moving to Arizona in the early 2000’s and marrying my High School sweet heart, we had our first child in 2012 and I wanted him to be able to grow up alongside a Golden Retriever like I did. Though sadly, I soon discovered that as an adult I had developed allergies towards our new Golden Retriever puppy. That’s when I started to research a more allergy friendly breed and discovered Goldendoodles! Back then in 2014, there weren’t very many Goldendoodle breeders in Arizona and it was hard to find a Goldendoodle puppy, so I decided then that I wanted to breed Goldendoodles and be able to provide more families with a hypoallergenic dog.
In 2016 I bred our beloved Golden Retriever, Lucy Lou and we had our first litter of F1 Goldendoodles. From that first litter we kept a female, Missy starting our line of Goldendoodles. It amazed me how allergy friendly a first generation Goldendoodle was, I could finally cuddle a dog again and not have itchy eyes or sneeze! I quickly fell in love with the goofy and gentle nature of the Goldendoodle. We have always kept a female from Lucy’s line and now have her Great, Great granddaughter as a future mama for our program!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Becoming a breeder has had its challenges for sure. I started my program at the cusp of also starting a family. Being pregnant and having little ones while trying to raise a litter of pups was very difficult and time consuming.
There are many different ways to whelp and raise a litter of puppies and I wanted to provide mine with the best upbringing. Learning and researching different methods, trial and error for potty training and the constant around the clock care for a litter’’s needs combined with my duties as a stay-at-home mother was very challenging for the first few years during those learning stages. It still is challenging combining family and breeding responsibilities but now that my children are older and my program has a tried and true curriculum and potty training method, each litter whelped has become easier. My children now also enjoy helping with the puppies as much as they can!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Goldendoodle AZ specializes in breeding petite, mini and medium sized Goldendoodles. Since 2016 we have been creating furever friends! We have created an exclusive daily puppy curriculum to provide the puppies with stimulants and activities, ensuring their minds are always learning and active. As well as a daily handling method to help desensitize our puppies for homes with children and the grooming requirements of the breed. We also developed our potty training method that litter box trains our puppies by the age of 6 weeks old! Our puppies are raised in a loving home environment. Our parent dogs are well loved and spoiled and enjoy spending their days lounging in the pool, running around on a quarter acre or sleeping the day away next to their favorite humans. We genetically health test all of our parent dogs to ensure we are always breeding happy & healthily puppies!
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory has to be exploring the dense forests of Washington State along side my best four legged friend Fergie. She would tag along with my siblings and I on every adventure we went on. Always watching out for us and helping us find our way back home when we would venture too far.
