Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Courtney Jorgenson

We recently had the chance to connect with Courtney Jorgenson and have shared our conversation below.

Courtney, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
I would say I am most proud of building the confidence it takes to be a business owner and interact with clients. I have always struggled with extreme social anxiety and have came a long way with how I interact with clients. In the past I would be shy and not very talkative, now I know exactly what to expect going into a session and don’t feel overwhelmed with anxiety.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Courtney Elaine Jorgenson and I am the girl behind the camera for my business Courtney Elaine Photography. I have been a photographer for eight years now. I graduated from Northern Arizona University in 2020 with a Bachelor of Science in Photography. The part that makes my business interesting is how far I am willing to go to get the perfect photos. If a client wants to climb a mountain I am right behind them, if they want to be in the water I am right there with them. I never put a limit on how creative a session gets and I am always down for trying new things. My business motto is “For the wild & adventurous ones.”

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
I would say my family 100%. My family has always been the most supportive of everything I have wanted to do. They bought me my first camera and continue to support me in every single way. They have always known that I would be successful and have given me the support and push I have needed to venture out on my own and build my business. Once I realized they were confident in who I am as a person and business owner I learned to be confident in myself. I am forever thankful for each and every one of them.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
You are good enough despite what any one else may think. Keep pushing, it gets easier.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Whose ideas do you rely on most that aren’t your own?
My dads. Any time I am struggling with set ups for photo sessions he is the first person I turn to for help. He is always trying to find new ways to make my business successful by giving me ideas on how to promote my business.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
Im doing what I was born to do. I have always had a more creative side. I feel as if I see things in a different way than most people. I am able to see beauty where most people might not. I see a moment in time and feel the need to capture it so it won’t slip away. I am a very sentimental person so photography just came naturally when capturing memories.
