We’re looking forward to introducing you to Brittany Salinas. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Brittany, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
Aside from building my business completely on my own, I’m proud of how much I’ve grown personally. I’ve always been a bit of a risk taker, but lately, I’ve been pushing myself to take even bigger chances. As a result, my confidence has expanded in ways most people don’t see, and that growth means everything to me.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Brittany, I was born and raised here in Arizona! I have a such deep love for this state, I’ll always call it home.
At age 29, I decided to leave my job and a take leap of faith by going after the career I’ve always dreamt of. I received my cosmetology license in 2022 and have hit the ground running ever since.
I am now a proudly independent stylist based in Phoenix, which is something I envisioned for years. I specialize in layered cuts, lived-in blonding, color and extensions. I created a judgment-free, cozy space where you can come as you are, slow down, relax and feel excited about getting your hair done.
I pride myself in caring for every single person that sits in my chair. This career is a privilege and I feel so incredibly blessed to be a part of it.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I was always a tender hearted, caring person. I’m proud to say that’s one piece of me that’s never been shaped or changed by the world.
Since childhood, I’ve struggled with anxiety and feeling like I was either ‘too much’ or ‘not enough.’ I questioned my place in the world for a long time. But when I left my job to pursue this career, it marked the beginning of a journey of self-discovery and finally learning to believe in myself.
Now I’m just fully being me, no filter, no apologies, and trusting in myself.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, I’ve definitely had moments where I wanted to throw in the towel. One of the hardest was during school, after losing my 23-year-old sister. I was in so much emotional pain that I kept to myself, but I kept on going. To be honest, I didn’t think I had any other option than to keep going.
There’ve been doubts and setbacks since then too, and unfortunately not so great experiences that made me question everything and wonder if it was even worth it.
But my faith kept me going and I’m so glad I didn’t quit. If anything, it pushed me further into creating something for myself, and I wouldn’t be where I am today if not for these struggles. The journey to where I am now has taught me more about myself than I ever expected.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
They’d probably say that being kind and living life to the fullest matter to me.
Especially in today’s day and age, you just never know what someone is struggling with. It’s not just a nice thing I say, I genuinely try to live by that, and teach my daughters this as well. We need more compassion and kindness in this world, it would be a lot different place if we all lived this way.
What I’ve learned in the past 33 years of my life is this, if you don’t go after the things you want in life, you’ll never have them. I’d rather look back on my life and say yeah, I did everything I wanted even if it was “embarrassing” or didn’t work out, than the latter. Also, enjoying every single moment, life’s so short.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I sincerely hope that those who knew me will say I was a genuine person, a light in dark places, and that even through all the trials life threw my way, I stayed kind, caring, and grounded.
At the end of the day, I believe our purpose isn’t just in what we do, but in how we make others feel while we’re doing it. I hope my life reflects that.
