Lauren Ryan of Flagstaff, AZ on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Lauren Ryan. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Lauren, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
My hobby the past few years has been creating stained glass sun catchers and I am absolutely having the best time continuing the craft and seeing what I’m capable of!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Lauren. Lolo or Lo for short! My profession is a hairstylist, a co-owner of Wildflower Salon in Flagstaff, AZ and my speciality is cutting! My sister Kaylie and I opened Wildflower Salon with the intention of having positive, safe, welcoming and creative place for like-minded stylists to co-create in. Our salon is unique in the vibes we bring once you walk in the door; it’s chill but vivacious. It’s a high-end salon in a mountain town that is laid-back, low maintenance but appreciates a seamless balayage blend or a ‘70s shag. We definitely help bring the style to Flagstaff!
Wildflower Salon has won the title ‘Best Hair Salon’ for the Arizona Daily Sun’s Best Of Flagstaff Businesses 4 consecutive years in a row and we can’t wait to win for ‘25! We are passionate hairdressers and will always stay educated to deliver the techniques it takes to give our community their dream hair!

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I think the majority of people might answer this question with the world being the antagonist but I kinda sorta lived my life through the lens of others well into my adulthood. When I started to tune all that out and trust myself, I felt like the world all along was saying “all you ever had to do was be yourself, and that’s enough.” So, I guess who I was before the world actually helped me be who I had to be was not actually me.
Are you confused yet?
Love the introspective vibe of this interview so far!

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
Losing family seems to be a theme in my life one way or another and I continue the journey of healing from them always. One thing my therapist told me while talking about the loss of my mom was that I can have whatever relationship that I want with her now and that changed my brain. I will always be so grateful for that.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My relationships, my family (chosen and not), being a kind and good person especially behind closed doors and tasty food!

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m laying in a hammock in the perfect amount of sun, shade and breeze and my eyes are closed and my thoughts are drifting.
