Inspiring Conversations with Alanah Nicole Kenyon of Studio Linea

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alanah Nicole Kenyon.

Hi Alanah Nicole, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have spent over 12 years in the beauty industry as a hairstylist, salon owner, and educator in Seattle, Washington, and Portland, Oregon. I didn’t always want to be a hairstylist, but I have always been very entrepreneurial. When I decided to go to school, I quickly realized that it was where I wanted to be. I loved the ability to be creative and to help people feel better about themselves. After 12 years behind the chair, I am ready to take the next step of opening my commission salon. My passion is to elevate the industry through training and education. I have coached stylists and salon owners to understand their business better and reach greater financial independence, and I am ready to do that for my team. I recently relocated with my husband and two young children to Arizona. I travel back and forth to Portland monthly to continue running My Oregon business. I am currently negotiating to expand operations to include the west valley of Phoenix, AZ. I now work out of a Goodyear, and my Verrado location will open next year.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been fairly smooth?
I think the biggest struggle has been that being behind the chair means wearing many hats. You are managing the business, finances, Operations, inventory, marketing, social media person, customer service, and clients, ensuring you stay up on all the latest techniques, products, and trends. It can feel overwhelming at times.

We’ve been impressed with Studio Linea, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a luxury salon providing a luxury experience for women. Our ideal guests are women who value quality over quantity. Our guests are busy and successful and are looking for a space where they are fully taken care of. No detail is left unfinished. Our fundamental value as a business is to prioritize building relationships. Customers who feel valued, taken care of, and trust us will become lifelong loyal customers who share their experiences with friends and family. Every business process we implement ensures continued alignment with our values and goals as a salon.

Studio Linea is about developing a relationship with our customers. One way to set us apart is the structure and intention of how services are booked. Initially, guests will fill out a comprehensive, new guest consultation form before booking an appointment. This ensures that new clients connect with the stylist whose skill set best suits their personal needs and aesthetics. Every new guest will receive A new client bag with brochures of our most popular services, samples of popular products, discount referral cards to give to friends, procedures for booking appointments, and salon policies and ways to follow us on social media. The service doesn’t stop after they leave. At the end of each week, every new guest to the salon will be mailed a personalized thank you card from their stylist thanking them for coming in. They will also be enrolled in our guest newsletter sent out monthly regarding monthly sales, specials, new products, services, links to styling tips, current trends, and so much more.

In addition to that, hair stylists are looking for a salon home where they can grow year over year financially, educationally, and creatively. Our commission structure is set up, so stylists have the creative freedom and autonomy to be independent stylists within the structure. I am excited to expand my location to allow other stylists to grow.

What matters most to you? Why?
I have been in a lot of different salon environments. Some of them were great, some of them very toxic. The most important thing to me is building authentic relationships. I think that is the foundation of any great business.
