Today we’d like to introduce you to Andy Hnilo.
Hi Andy, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Andy Hnilo, and I’m the founder of Alitura Naturals, a clean, nutrient-dense skincare company based in Sedona, Arizona. What started as a personal healing journey eventually turned into a brand that’s now been around for 12 years and serves customers all over the world.
I didn’t set out to start a skincare company. In fact, it came out of one of the lowest points in my life.
In 2011, I was living in Los Angeles working as a model and actor when I was run over by two SUVs in a near-fatal accident. I had a broken jaw and significant facial injuries, and the recovery process forced me to slow down and pay close attention to what I was putting in and on my body. I had already been avoiding conventional products because of the toxins they often contain, and that only became more important while my skin was trying to heal.
So I started researching. A lot. I became deeply interested in nutrition, natural ingredients, and how different compounds actually affect the skin. That led me to experimenting on my own, mixing clays, botanicals, and minerals in my kitchen. At the time, it wasn’t about building a brand. I was just trying to support my skin in the most natural and effective way I could.
As my skin began to improve, people started asking what I was using. That eventually turned into my first product, the Clay Mask. From there, things grew naturally. I stayed focused on creating formulations that were clean, nutrient-dense, and purposeful. No fillers, no unnecessary ingredients, just what the skin actually needs.
Alitura Naturals has now been around for 12 years, which is still surreal to me. We’ve grown into a global brand with customers all over the world, but the foundation is the same as it was in the beginning. It’s about feeding the skin real nutrients, keeping everything as pure as possible, and creating products that people can truly feel good about using.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. There have been a lot of challenges along the way, especially in the early years.
When I first started, I had no background in skincare or business. I was learning everything as I went, from formulation to sourcing ingredients to figuring out how to actually bring a product to market. There were plenty of mistakes, a lot of trial and error, and moments where I wasn’t sure if it was all going to work.
One of the biggest challenges has always been staying true to the standard I set from the beginning. It’s much easier and cheaper to cut corners, use fillers, or follow trends, but that was never the goal. Sourcing the highest quality ingredients from around the world, keeping everything clean and potent, and producing in small batches comes with its own set of obstacles. It takes more time, it’s more expensive, and it requires a lot more attention to detail.
There were also times where growth was slow, and you’re putting everything you have into something without knowing how it’s going to turn out. That can test you mentally. But I think those moments are also what shape the brand and make it real.
Even now, 12 years in, there are still challenges. As you grow, the problems just change. But I’ve always looked at it as part of the process. If anything, those challenges have reinforced why I started this in the first place and kept me focused on doing things the right way, not the easy way.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Alitura Naturals?
Alitura Naturals is a clean, results-driven skincare line built around one core idea: feed your skin nutrients, not toxins. Everything we create is designed to support the skin the same way good nutrition supports the body.
We specialize in high-performance, non-toxic skincare using concentrated, purposeful ingredients. You’ll see things like Freshwater Pearl Powder, GHK-Cu (copper peptide), Astaxanthin, Marine Collagen, and a range of nutrient-dense botanicals across the line. Every ingredient is there for a reason. We don’t use fillers, and we don’t formulate just to follow trends.
What sets us apart is really that level of intention. From sourcing to formulation to packaging, everything is done with a long-term view of skin health. Our products are handcrafted in small batches, and we use Miron glass packaging to help preserve the integrity of the ingredients without relying on synthetic preservatives. It’s a slower, more meticulous way of doing things, but it allows us to maintain a level of quality that’s hard to replicate at scale.
I think what we’re most known for is delivering visible results while staying true to clean standards. A lot of people feel like they have to choose between natural products and products that actually work. Our goal has always been to bridge that gap.
What I’m most proud of is the trust we’ve built with our customers. We have people who have been with us for years, and that means a lot. This brand started from a very personal place, and to see it resonate with people all over the world is something I don’t take lightly.
If there’s one thing I’d want readers to know, it’s that we take this seriously. Every formula is created with care, tested over time, and rooted in the same philosophy I started with 12 years ago. Keep it clean, keep it effective, and let the results speak for themselves.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I never really had one formal mentor, but I’ve learned a lot from paying attention to people who are doing things the right way and being willing to reach out.
One person who did make a big impact early on was Dave Asprey. He gave me an opportunity to share what I was working on, and that exposure helped open some doors at a time when I was still figuring everything out. It wasn’t just the platform, it was also seeing how he approached health, performance, and building something with intention.
For me, networking has always worked best when it’s genuine. Not going into it thinking, “What can I get from this person?” but more, “What can I learn, and how can I bring value to the relationship?” Some of the best connections I’ve made started from simple conversations, asking thoughtful questions, or just showing appreciation for someone’s work.
One thing that helped me early on was being willing to put myself in the right environments. Whether that was events, conferences, or even just reaching out online, you increase your chances of meeting the right people when you’re consistently showing up. And when you do connect with someone you respect, follow up and stay in touch. A lot of people don’t do that.
I also think it’s important to stay curious and keep learning on your own. Some of the most valuable “mentorship” I’ve had has come from books, podcasts, and conversations where I was just listening and absorbing as much as I could.
At the end of the day, I think people respond to authenticity. If you’re serious about what you’re doing and you approach people with respect and intention, the right relationships tend to build over time.
