Today we’d like to introduce you to Jodi Stern.
Hi Jodi, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started teaching Pilates almost 30 years ago I opened my first studio in NY in 1999. I expanded 3 times in 15 years. I was the fitness spokesperson for CBS morning news for over 8 years and a contributor to ABC, NBC and FOX. I was featured in Garnett Services frequently as their fitness spokesperson. My video was picked up and featured in Pilates Style Magazine, and I was on the Times Square Building featured as new DVD to watch. I moved to AZ 10 years ago, and worked at a few health clubs and Pilates Studios. I opened my own studio here one year ago in Gainey Village. I teach Pilates and GyroMovementl, to practitioners and have a teacher training program.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Owning a business can be challenging. In NY I had a lot of employees. Very different needs and personalities. The same with clients. All having different body challenges and desires for fitness. I grew very quickly in business in NY. In AZ I am taking my time and growing at a slower pace.
As you know, we’re big fans of JodiStern Pilates. . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I have over 4,000 hours of certifications in Pilates and various movement exercises. My technique is different from most ‘West Coast Pilates’ trained teachers. I am classically trained, but have trained in other modalities since. My technique is slower and more controlled movements to work your muscles as opposed to ‘Aerobic Pilates’. Each client is an individual with individual needs, and I assess the body every time they come to me. Small tweaks in form make the difference to a better quality workout.
Any big plans?
