Exploring Life and Business with Colleen Biggs of Lead Up for Women

Today we’d like to introduce you to Colleen Biggs.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Becoming an Entrepreneur started when I dropped out of Corporate! That’s right, after 30 years in Corporate America I decided to step out of the box, get off the wheel and choose freedom. And along with that came growth, struggles, and realizations of not only the amazing aspects of being an entrepreneur but the hard parts as well. Working in Corporate America meant I was paid for what I was worth, or the value I bring. When I left and wasn’t getting a regular paycheck did that mean I was worth nothing? For a brief moment, to me, it did. And that’s how my journey began. I knew I wanted to build an empire, a business that supported women in corporate and female entrepreneurs. Shortly before I left my job I launched Lead Up for Women in January 2019. I was excited to bring networking, platforms, and collaborations for women to be seen, be heard, and be visible. In January of 2019 we launched the first issue of the Lead Up for Women Magazine In February of 2019 we launched our radio show on Voice America, Lead Up for Women: Speak Up to Lead Up and in March we held our 1st Luncheon of the 10 we had planned in New York City. We hit the ground running and never looked back. I was spreading the word all over the Nation that women could have it all, and feel worthy, enough, successful, and satisfied without having to give up anything! Since January of 2019, Lead Up has grown to over 10,000 women in the community, we are in 4 countries, have 2 chapters, and are launching 2 more before the end of the year in 2021. Lead Up for Women has become the community for female entrepreneurs that are looking for more exposure, credibility, spotlights, and platforms for them to share their message, expand their influence and attract the right clients.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Every business has its fair share of obstacles and challenges along the way, and Lead Up is no different. We have launched concepts that we thought the community would LOVE and they fell flat. I see this as a blessing, because without knowing what your community likes and dislikes, how can you truly serve them? We listen intently to what the community is desiring, what they need more of, and how we can serve them for their investment. We have shown up in cities and had only 7 women attend an event when the very next month, the facility is full and overflowing and we have more chairs being brought in a room. Running a large Women’s Organization is quite the feat. Let me tell you that you cannot please everyone, so don’t even try.

That is why I stick to the vision that I have for the women in our organization and for women as a whole. I’m consistently inspired to change the landscape for women indefinitely. I want more females to own a business, and not a business making enough money for a family vacation each year, but a business that makes millions of dollars. I want women in corporate America to have more seats as CEOs in Fortune 500 companies and take their seats at the table. When your dream is large and you have a vision for how the future could be, the road seems long, but mostly smooth.

We’ve been impressed with Lead Up for Women, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Lead Up for Women is an organization that provides women the necessary platforms, tools, and spotlights to promote themselves and their brands. Today’s world is so oversaturated with social media and “noise” that so many female entrepreneurs struggle to stand out amongst that chaos. How do they do that you ask? Through leaving a lasting impression on others and stepping into the spotlight as often as they possibly can! Lead Up for Women doesn’t believe in competition only collaborations. All women should believe highly in their gifts, talents, and in their abilities to make a lot of money. Owning a business doesn’t have to be hard. It’s fun, and we can be extremely successful if we create the vision, follow the plan and assign dates to those steps. You wouldn’t jump in a boat in the harbor, set it to drive and not course a path, would you? No way! Then why do so many entrepreneurs attempt to build success in a business without a course or plan? It’s crazy how many women do this. Lead Up for Women provides a safe and nurturing environment so women can assist each other, lift each other and not be afraid to allow another female to walk through the door first. We must not judge others but only respect and love one another. Lead Up for Women provides numerous platforms for women to shine and be noticed through our magazine, weekly Teaching Tuesday Masterclasses (taught by the members), weekly Member Monday Spotlights, Thrive Thursdays, Podcast interviews, chapter meetings, monthly Lunch-N-Learns and so much more for women to gain the leverage needed to attract the right clients.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I’m a 1st-degree black belt in Taekwondo! I competed and studied for over 3 years and it changed my life. Pushing your body and mind past its breaking point builds resilience in a person. I built that in myself, a new level of belief, a new level of desire, and a whole new level of success. And now I want that for others.
