Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikki Nixon.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hi! I am Nikki the founder of The Lash & Skin Lounge in Peoria, AZ. My journey started back in 2024 when I went to Aesthetician school… fast forward to 2016 when my youngest was starting school. I decided to get back into the beauty world and offered eyelash extensions and airbrush spray tanning from my home. That quickly picked up, and before I knew it, I was moving into a salon suite.
Fast forward to 2020 when COVID hit. This was a scary time, but I used this time to take continuing education and research my industry. I made the decision to come back from COVID-19, focusing on the growth of The Lash & Skin Lounge. I started out with one employee and grew from there. At this point in time the “Lounge” focused on skincare services, eyebrow, and eyelash extension services.
In 2023 I was missing the tanning industry and decided once again to expand the Lounge. I opened our sunless tanning side called The Tanning Lounge. I have been in the tanning industry since 2001 and have a passion for creating a bronzy boost of confidence for clients.
Through my time as an Aesthetician, I know how damaging the UV tanning beds can be, and wanted to introduce the healthy world of Airbrush Spray Tanning to my clients. I am honored to have created a space for people to come in and feel beautiful while relaxing and building long-lasting relationships.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely been a challenging road. My husband has focused on furthering his education and career while I have focused on growing new businesses all while raising kids who are both in highly competitive sports. We have had to get creative with time and lean on our teams when we are away.
Trust has been huge in starting my business. And none of us expected to be hit with the pandemic and shut down for months. This was a very challenging time but also very eye-opening and taught me a lot as a business owner. But not giving up and taking the tough lessons and growing from them has been detrimental to me personally and as a business owner.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in skincare services, specifically hyperpigmentation and acne skin. I also specialize in eyelash extensions and airbrush spray tanning. I am so proud of the growth I have made over the past 18 years and that I have been able to take my knowledge and expand that to new beauty professionals while mentoring them on their journeys. I believe what sets me apart from others is the true relationships I have built with my clients and that I try to build others up rather than compete with them.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I think the industry will be moving further into the anti-aging direction focusing on the health and preservation of the skin while naturally enhancing features like eyebrows and eyelashes.
