Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Semple.
Hi Courtney, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Petal and Clover was a passion project that began for the sole purpose of creating. We are a team of two who love and adore creativity as well as sustainability. We have combined both of these in an effort to create sustainable art! We thrift all of our base materials, and give these once loved items a new life. With so many items discarded every day, we are able to find the most magical books and trinkets. Thrifting sparks inspiration for us, and we are so proud of what we have created!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Starting a small business is never easy. We have struggled with marketing and reaching a wider audience, however we have come to gain patience in our efforts to grow. Great things take time, and our passion reaches far beyond sales. We truly enjoy what we do, and we will continue to create and inspire.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We specialize in moss art! We create magical, miniature worlds on real books inspired by the title of the book! Our books will typically feature a fairy house, little animals, and so many other darling accessories. The moss creates the illusion of an overgrown landscape. A truly mossy and whimsical addition to any home!
We also create mossy frames with unique or vintage frames we find secondhand! These pieces will typically feature floral designs as well! Each piece is one of a kind and made with so much love and joy.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
We have learned to create from the heart- and to truly create what YOU want to create. Art is subjective, and finding your audience can be a battle of its own- but as long as you’re truly enjoying what you do, then that audience will find you.
