Today we’d like to introduce you to Lydia Loveall.
Hi Lydia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My love for hairstyling started at a young age, always trying to do my own hair in elementary school. It carried on through high school, doing my friend’s hair for prom and eventually even weddings. But my first job out of high school was as a dental administrator. I thrived in this position and was able to develop strong organizational and communication skills. Skills that have been so valuable now as a small business owner!
However, I longed for more creative work and continued hairstyling as a hobby. I began documenting my work by posting on instagram. Mostly just sharing hair inspiration for others, but some bridal hair as well.
Fast forward 7 years, I was married with my first baby on the way. I decided to make the switch from the dental field to being a full time stay at home mother. It was a huge adjustment but one of my greatest joys! After settling into motherhood, I wanted to use my professional skills at a larger capacity without sacrificing my time as a SAHM.
As almost an immediate answer to prayer, an instagram friend, a professional bridal hair and makeup artist, reached out and asked if I would like to join their team as a bridal hairstylist. Not only was this flexible for me to choose my own schedule, but it opened so many doors to connect with other professionals in the bridal industry.
While I still love to work with the team, over the last 3 years I have been so blessed to grow my own bridal hair company, and work with the sweetest brides on their special day!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Learning to have confidence in myself and my work as a hairstylist and seeing my own value is something that didn’t happen overnight. That is something I think many self made business owners can related to. Growth is never easy, personal growth and in business. I have been so blessed to have an amazing spouse and family who support and encourage me. But my first priority is to my family and being present for them. Learning to juggle work and my job as a mom is a constant challenge, (one I know every mother can relate to) although it is the most rewarding job by far!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am so enthusiastic to be a professional in the bridal industry. Providing a service I am so passionate about, on such a special day for brides is a huge privilege. My work often reflects a boho bridal style or soft romantic inspiration. I specialize in updos and braids, but my experience working with long hair is a skill I am proud to share with my clients.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I am Arizona born and raised, originally from Tucson. The unusual beauty of the desert is something I love! There are endless opportunities in Phoenix with its growing population. But some days I do miss the small town feel of Tucson, and the frequent monsoon storms! Either way, Arizona makes for the most picturesque backdrop for any wedding. Phoenix has endless options for brides to choose a venue and vendors that are the perfect fit!
