Hi Kristi, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Kristi and Ricky launched Chickies Coffee in 2022, transforming Ricky’s grandfather’s 1971 Datsun 521 pickup into a coffee truck! Together they built everything you see on the truck from the ground up.
Kristi’s passion for hospitality shines through as she serves coffee with a smile 🙂 Ricky, a sustainability graduate from ASU and a construction professional, combined his skills with Kristi’s vision to meticulously refurbish the Datsun, crafting artisan butcher block countertops and installing all necessary plumbing and electrical.
Chickies Coffee proudly uses organic, ethically sourced beans from the Roastery of Cave Creek, ensuring every cup is brewed to perfection. Whether you’re looking for a caffeine fix or a charming addition to your special event, Chickies Coffee offers an unforgettable sip in every cup.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting Chickies Coffee certainly came with its share of challenges, particularly in the initial stages when finding leads and building a customer base was a significant hurdle. Establishing a new business often involves navigating through a maze of obstacles. However, despite these early difficulties, the effort invested in overcoming these challenges has begun to pay off. As the business has grown, the persistence in addressing these initial issues has led to more opportunities and a stronger market presence, proving that the early struggles were worthwhile and ultimately contributed to the success of chickies coffee.

I have worked in the coffee industry for the past 10 years, where I managed nearly every aspect of coffee production. I managed a cafe and worked at a wholesale coffee roastery. My passion for hospitality shines through as customers book out the coffee truck and I can serve them Chickies Coffee. I’m personable and I love to see people smile and have a good time!
Who else deserves credit in your story?
The journey of starting Chickies Coffee would not have been as easy without the incredible support I received from my husband, Ricky!! He was my biggest cheerleader throughout the process, helping me build the coffee truck from the ground up. His encouragement and belief in the vision kept me motivated during the whole process! Ricky’s grandfather, Armand, generously gifted us his Datsun truck, which has been essential for our coffee truck operation. Additionally, Dave Anderson, the owner of the Roastery of Cave Creek, has been an invaluable mentor. His guidance and expertise in the coffee industry have provided crucial insights and support, helping to navigate the complexities of the business and contributing significantly to its success!
