Community Highlights: Meet PJ Cardona of Lights and Health, Inc.

Today we’d like to introduce you to PJ Cardona.

Hi PJ , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve been a Certified Light Therapist specializing in InLight Therapy (the company) for 12 years now. I started my practice in Chicago and moved out to AZ about 6 years ago.

I discovered light therapy because I was in pain and someone invited me to a seminar to learn about light therapy. I was thinking “this may help me, I’m excited to try it!”. I did do a couple of sessions that weekend and felt so much better, my chronic hip and feet pain subsided alot. I ended up purchasing one of these clinical grade light systems and using it every day. Changed my life in more ways than one. I thought….if I didn’t know about this therapy, most people don’t know about it, and they need to. I found a certification program and hung my first shingle and started offering light therapy sessions to people with all different kinds of pain. And quickly, it because a thing, and I was very very busy. The same can be said about out here in AZ…people are ready for non narcotic pain relief and are embracing this industry!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’d say my journey over the last decade has been mostly smooth, but what is happening now is that everyone has at least heard of it (vs. in the beginning when I had to start from scratch…what it is, how it works, what it works for, etc). Now, people are adding light therapy to their homes, and the biggest challenge is educating people that there are all kinds of different levels of light therapy and difference in the types of products being offered. There are plenty of cheaper products out there with shoddy marketing messages and the trouble is, many of these devices don’t work great, are poor quality, and that gives light therapy a bad name. It’s so important to vet what kind of system it is, what the output and power of the lights are, is it a continuous wave or pulsed wave, just to name a few. In this industry, you definitely get what you pay for. Learn what’s important in a light therapy device before buying one for your home – you want one that will LAST for the rest of your life.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Lights and Health, Inc.?
Lights and Health is an education-focused light therapy business specializing in photobiomodulation (PBM), also commonly known as red and near-infrared light therapy.

My goal has always been to make light therapy easy to understand. There are so many devices, colors, wavelengths, claims, and opinions in the marketplace that people often do not know where to begin. I help take the confusion out of it by teaching people how light therapy works, what the research shows, and how it can be used safely and effectively at home. I host many lunch and learns and health presentations throughout the community to teach about light therapy in a non sales environment. People come to learn and leave very well educated on not only what it is but how it works, and what it works for.

I specialize in InLight Therapy systems, which are FDA-cleared Class II devices designed to increase circulation and reduce pain, stiffness, soreness, and muscle spasms. Unlike traditional light panels, InLight uses flexible pads that are placed directly on the body, allowing light to be delivered exactly where it is needed. The systems also offer multiple wavelengths and pulsed-light settings, making them extremely versatile.

What sets Lights and Health apart is the education and personal support that comes with the technology*. I have spent years studying light therapy, working directly with clients, teaching classes and webinars, demonstrating systems, and helping people determine how to incorporate light therapy into their everyday lives. I also serve as an InLight Therapy Veteran Liaison, helping Veterans and healthcare providers navigate access to these systems through the VA. This is extremely rewarding…I love working for the Veterans.

One of the things I am most proud of is the community that has grown around Lights and Health. Many of my clients come to me through referrals from people who have had positive experiences themselves. I love seeing someone discover light therapy, experience the benefits, and then tell a friend or family member, *“You need to talk to PJ.”*

I have a no pressure approach…I offer in clinic sessions if someone wants to come somewhere for the therapy. I also offer at home systems that people can take home and rent by the week. This is extremely beneficial for someone to be able to do light therapy every day, often two or times a day, vs. coming to my clinic. Much more effective also. Finally, many people choose to purchase an at home system. When they do, they get me to help them with a protocol and any questions they may have in the future. The education doesn’t stop when someone purchases a system.

Our mission is simple: education first, product second. I want people to understand what they are buying, why they are using it, and how to get the most from it. I am proud to have built a brand based on education, personal relationships, ongoing support, and helping people take a more active role in their own wellness.

What matters most to you?
Trust matters to me…I want people to trust me to teach them about light therapy. I want to change their lives for the better. That’s what light therapy can do – I’ve seen it thousands of times throughout the years!
