Community Highlights: Meet Oluchi Onwumere of Everkind Care Homes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Oluchi Onwumere.

Hi Oluchi, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey to Everkind Care Homes began with a deeply personal vision of what assisted living could and should feel like.

I saw an opportunity to create something different from the traditional institutional model of senior care, a smaller, intimate residential setting where exceptional care could coexist with warmth, dignity, beauty, and genuine human connection.

That vision became Everkind Care Homes, a boutique residential assisted living home in Glendale, Arizona.

From the beginning, I wanted Everkind to feel like a home first. One of the ideas most important to me was preserving a resident’s individuality. Moving into assisted living is already a major life transition; I don’t believe people should also have to give up the environment and possessions that make them feel like themselves. Our residents have private suites that they can personalize with their own furniture, photographs, décor, and treasured belongings, or they can choose a beautifully furnished space.

That philosophy eventually became the heart of our brand: “Your Room. Your Style. Your Home.”

Building Everkind has involved much more than creating a beautiful residence. I have been deeply involved in developing the operations, care systems, staffing infrastructure, compliance processes, marketing, community relationships, and resident experience behind the business.

Today, Everkind is growing into more than an assisted living home. Through The Everkind Home™ Community Education Series, we are also creating a place where families, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and community partners can come together to learn and have meaningful conversations about aging and senior care.

My goal is ultimately very simple: to help redefine what assisted living can look and feel like. I want families to know that needing additional care does not mean a person has to surrender their dignity, individuality, independence, or sense of home.

Everkind was built around that belief, and we’re still building every day.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has definitely not been a smooth road.

Building Everkind Care Homes from the ground up has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life, but also one of the most challenging. Assisted living is a highly regulated industry, and I quickly learned that having a beautiful vision is only the beginning. Behind that vision are licensing requirements, compliance, staffing, policies and procedures, inspections, operational systems, financial commitments, and countless details that families may never see but that are essential to providing safe, high-quality care.

One of my greatest challenges has been learning to navigate those complexities while also building the business itself. There were moments when timelines changed, unexpected expenses arose, plans had to be reworked, and I had to learn areas of the industry very quickly. As a new business, there is also the reality that expenses begin long before the first resident walks through the door.

Another challenge has been introducing a new assisted living brand into a community where trust and relationships matter tremendously. You cannot simply open your doors and expect families to come. I have had to build Everkind’s reputation one relationship at a time, meeting placement professionals, healthcare providers, hospice organizations, families, and other community partners and inviting them into our home to understand what we are creating.

That challenge ultimately inspired something I am particularly proud of: The Everkind Home™ Community Education Series. Instead of focusing solely on promoting our business, I wanted Everkind to become a place where professionals and families could come together to learn, connect, and have meaningful conversations about aging and care.

Perhaps the greatest lesson has been learning that entrepreneurship requires the ability to adapt without losing sight of your original vision. There have been setbacks and plenty of moments when I have had to rethink the plan, but the mission has remained consistent.

I am building Everkind for the long term. Every challenge has forced me to become a better operator, a more resourceful entrepreneur, and a stronger advocate for the kind of assisted living experience I believe older adults and their families deserve.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Everkind Care Homes?
About Everkind Care Homes

Everkind Care Homes is a boutique residential assisted living home in Glendale, Arizona, created around a simple belief: receiving assistance should never mean giving up your individuality or your sense of home.

We provide personalized assisted living and directed care in an intimate residential environment. Our services include assistance with activities of daily living, medication management, 24-hour compassionate care, wellness monitoring, home-style meals, housekeeping and laundry, transportation coordination, healthcare coordination, mobile medical services, family communication, daily engagement activities, respite care, and concierge support.

What truly sets Everkind apart, however, is not simply the services we provide. It is how personal we make the experience.

One of the most important parts of our philosophy is personalized living space. Every resident has a private suite, and we encourage residents and their families to make that space their own. They can bring their favorite furniture, family photographs, artwork, bedding, keepsakes, and other personal belongings that carry memories and meaning. For residents who prefer a ready-to-move-in option, we can also provide a beautifully furnished suite.

That philosophy inspired our tagline: “Your Room. Your Style. Your Home.”

I believe this matters because moving into assisted living is already a significant life transition. A person should not have to surrender their identity along with their previous address. Familiar surroundings can help preserve a sense of comfort, dignity, independence, and belonging.

Our small residential model also allows us to focus on relationships. We want to know the person behind the care plan, their preferences, routines, personality, family, and the little things that make them feel comfortable.

I am also particularly proud that Everkind is becoming a community resource through The Everkind Home™ Community Education Series. We bring families, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and community partners together for educational conversations around issues affecting older adults and the people who care for them.

Ultimately, I want people to understand that Everkind isn’t trying to recreate an institution on a smaller scale. We are creating a home where excellent care is built around the individual.

For us, personalization isn’t an amenity. It’s the foundation of the Everkind experience.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
One thing I would love readers to know is that Everkind is being built with a purpose that extends beyond providing assisted living.

I believe we have an opportunity to change the conversation around aging. Growing older and needing additional support should not automatically mean losing independence, individuality, dignity, or connection to the community.

That belief influences everything we are building at Everkind, from private, personalized living spaces to the relationships we develop with families and healthcare professionals, and our community education initiatives.

I am especially passionate about creating opportunities for families to become informed before they are faced with a crisis. Through The Everkind Home™ Community Education Series, we bring professionals, caregivers, families, and community members together to have practical conversations about aging, health, caregiving, and maintaining independence.

And we’re still at the beginning. My hope is that Everkind becomes known not simply as a beautiful place to live, but as a trusted resource for families navigating one of life’s most important transitions.
