Hi McKenna, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I really wish I had more of a “story” as to how McKenna Katherine Weddings came about but it really was something drawn up legit overnight. I was just two weeks away from graduating college and had no idea what I was going to do when I was done. I had spent countless days & nights thinking about what on earth would be my “full-time job,” which is the next step after you graduate college.
I have always had a deep passion for planning events and making moments special as well as have always been a major hopeless romantic. So, combining the two of these, I decided to open up my own wedding planning business, and that is how today we have planned over 600 weddings, been nominated for many awards, and are featured in many renowned publications.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely not been all sunshine and rainbows, to say the least. About a year into opening McKenna Katherine Weddings, Covid hit, and the wedding industry took a huge hit as the entire world shut down and every wedding was canceled.
This was super hard to navigate being a new business owner, not knowing what the correct protocol should be, as well as trying to keep a roof over my own head, feeling heartbroken for my couples having their entire day, boom, canceled with no control of the situation. However, this major downfall actually turned into our greatest success.
With people not knowing how to navigate the re-planning of an entire wedding entirely, they turned to us. As well as so many weddings getting postponed, we had a major wedding craze, and 2021 was one of our biggest years to date.

Absolutely! Without my family or my friends, I would, without a doubt, not be where I am today. Even just sharing our social media posts or telling people about our company has helped tremendously with business and getting our name out there. I am truly grateful to have such an amazing support system as being a business owner is not always the easiest job in the world but it is definitely the most rewarding.
