Community Highlights: Meet Kate Weed of Lucky Fish Marketing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kate Weed.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Lucky Fish Marketing started from a pattern I saw again and again with local businesses: they don’t necessarily need more ideas – they need leadership. Most small teams need the skill set of a marketing director to create a plan, prioritize the right work, and keep everything consistent… but they either can’t afford a full-time marketing director, or they don’t need one 40 hours a week.

That’s where I come in. I built Lucky Fish to be that marketing director-level partner on a fractional basis – helping businesses clarify their messaging, build campaigns that align with real business goals, and create simple systems that keep marketing moving even when things get busy.

More recently, my work has expanded heavily into AI and ChatGPT. I’m helping local businesses use AI in a practical, ethical way to move faster without losing their voice. Things like speeding up content creation, improving follow-up and email workflows, tightening brand messaging, and building repeatable marketing systems. My goal is to help them operate like a much bigger team, while still sounding like themselves and staying rooted in their community.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not smooth at all. COVID forced a major reset – not just for my business, but for every client I work with. Then came the constant ripple effects: economic uncertainty, tighter budgets, and buyer behavior changing in real time. People research differently now, they trust differently, and they expect faster answers and clearer value.

And behind the scenes, marketing is always shifting: algorithm changes, Google updates, new ad rules, new “best practices.” You can’t build a business on tactics alone because the tactics will always change.

What’s kept me going is grit and creativity. I’m comfortable pivoting, testing, and rebuilding. I don’t panic when things shift – I get curious, I get strategic, and I keep moving.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Lucky Fish Marketing?
Lucky Fish Marketing is a fractional marketing director service for local businesses that need marketing leadership, but don’t need a full-time hire. I specialize in brand messaging, campaign strategy, content systems, and lead follow-up, basically turning “I don’t know what’s working and what’s not” into a clear plan that actually drive revenues.

What sets me apart is the mix of strategy + execution and my focus on practical AI. I help businesses leverage tools like ChatGPT to create better marketing faster – without sounding generic or automated. I’m most proud that Lucky Fish is known for clarity, consistency, and being a true partner to the businesses we support.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
Support local, tell the truth, and build systems that last. Marketing doesn’t have to be loud. It has to be clear and consistent. And if you’re curious about AI, don’t wait until you feel “ready.” Start experimenting now in small ways. The businesses that learn to use tools like ChatGPT thoughtfully will have a real advantage.
