Check Out Sydney Smith’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sydney Smith.

Hi Sydney, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I began my tattoo journey in New Jersey, starting a formal apprenticeship at a local studio when I was just 17 years old. By the time I was 23, I opened my own studio, which I ran for three and a half years. During that time, I met my partner Jesse, a fellow tattoo artist, and together we set out to build something of our own. We opened the first location of Syzygy Precision Tattooing in Chalfont, Pennsylvania. After a year of growth, we expanded to a second location in Scottsdale, Arizona. Arizona is now our home base, and we’ve truly fallen in love with the community, the energy, and the opportunities we’ve found here. Now, over a decade into tattooing, I’m more passionate than ever about continuing to grow, evolve, and share this craft.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t always been easy. My apprenticeship was a traditional one that gave me a foundation, but most of what I’ve learned came from real-world experience. Figuring out the right needle groupings for different skin types, learning how to stay confident under pressure with people watching, and refining my technique. Opening my first studio at 23 pushed me to grow fast as both an artist and a business owner.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in fine line tattooing with a focus on delicate details, clean execution, and smaller-scaled designs. I’m known for single-needle work, finger tattoos, and minimal pieces. My style is soft, subtle line work, designed to complement the client.

Over the years, I’ve built a strong presence on social media, which has allowed me to share my art with a global audience and connect with clients from all over the world. I’ve had the opportunity to tattoo celebrities, open two studio locations, and mentor other artists through two-on-one trainings with my partner, Jesse.

What I’m most proud of is how far I’ve come by staying consistent, curious, and focused on quality. I believe what sets me apart is the level of care I put into every piece, from design and placement to the overall experience I give each client.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was always creative and curious. I loved to draw and do anything that let me work with my hands. I used to create things like tiny houses and furniture out of just paper and tape.

As a kid, I always knew I wanted to do something with art when I got older. I was a bit of a perfectionist and always drawn to small details. I could spend hours getting lost in drawing or rearranging my entire room for fun.
