Today we’d like to introduce you to Alpha Skywalker
Hi Alpha, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Alpha Skywalker, artist & owner of Abstrakt Realm LLC and subsidiaries Abstrakt Reality and The Mile High Club. I’ve been writing music just about my whole life and in high school decided to take it more seriously. I convinced a few friends to contribute to purchasing a microphone and starting a group. In order to set ourselves apart we decided we wouldn’t swear in our songs and would ensure each one had a message behind it; something that has affected my artistry today. Although at times I do cuss now, a lot of the music I make still has deep meaning, and my activism reaches beyond music. I also started a small t-shirt line in high school called “audacity” thanks to the customize option on the Spencer’s gifts website lmao. I chose the name audacity because a lot of the imagery was meant to get a rise and reaction out of those who see it (i.e. the White House with the text “the real terrorists”, the female silhouette from the bathroom sign logo lifting up another’s dress, etc.). About 4-5 years later I was tie dyeing some shirts and my mom suggested I start selling shirts which reminded me of audacity. Re inspired, I came up with the Brand Abstrakt Reality after careful consideration of what I wanted the brand to stand for; disruption of reality (or at least the one we’ve been programmed to accept). Our motto is “who controls your reality? Live life Abstrakt.” We started as a clothing brand and are slowly evolving into a new aged movement of counterculture, and we are always looking for more creatives and visionaries to join the team. Recently we have started the Abstrakt Reality Mile High Club: an experience brand centered around cannabis, the first of its kind. From events & trips to membership packages & more we aim to provide a unique experience in every way possible to our members. Outside of this we also aim to reduce the stigma around cannabis consumption and help those who have been labeled as “criminal” due to their experience with the plant. Fun fact: I actually have my bachelors in criminal justice, when applying for a few careers in the field I was sent a form denying me with a list of about 200 reasons why you could be denied. The only one checked on my form was “use of cannabis” although I had quit for over a year before applying. Although I have other options some users who have been convicted of a cannabis related crimes are still being punished while newcomers to the expanding industry are able to profit off of the same plant that got them arrested in the first place. I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’d say the biggest struggles, other than lack of capital, was self doubt for a while. Due to not lining up with industry standards it’s a little harder to gain traction. A lot of people I knew only wanted to hear the typical rap songs and none of the conscious music I was putting out, and definitely didn’t want to change their lives for the better or support the movement which took a toll on the faith in my brand. Of course there have been a lot of other issues but this was the most impactful; I even stopped working on everything for years and almost considered giving up.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I think what sets me apart from others is my mind and passion. I 100% believe with all my being that my mission is to change the world or at least make a big enough impact to speed up the process. I think I covered everything else in the first question lol.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
To trust myself and the timing of things, stand strong in who I am, and never give up.
