Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaron Hartman.
Aaron, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My story begins as a non-committed college student who didn’t know what to do with his life. I just started community college after graduating high school but I was simply unmotivated to complete my courses because I had no vision of wanting to pursue higher education. Over the course of a few semesters, this blasé approach to my education resulted in me failing the same math class three times and eventually dropping out all together. Later on through some encouragement from my family I signed up again for college again and this time took a college preparation class that ultimately change the trajectory of my life. After taking this one class I decided I want to pursue the field of psychology and to use my gifts to help other people through their own interior struggles. I went on to be a part of the honors program and received academic scholarships for my work. Afterwards I then went to finish my degree at ASU and then graduate school where I’m about to complete my masters in clinical mental health counseling. Next May when I graduate will be the finish line to achieve my dream that started almost 12 years ago.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of the biggest obstacles along the way it was my self. I would constantly get in the way of my own dreams and passions and it wasn’t until I truly conquered myself that I was able to see the path forward and pursue it diligently.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a clinical mental health therapist who works with individuals, family’s and couples to begin finding that stability in their lives that can ultimately lead them to flourishing. I like to combine modalities of therapy in order to treat the whole person and not just one part of them. I utilize both a top-down and a bottom-up approach by incorporating cognitive behavioral techniques with a parts work and somatic approach. I also help my clients who experienced trauma and grief in their lives which can hold so many people back from thriving and experiences the fullness of life. I have also been trained and am informed in how to integrate spirituality into my work which is something I’m very proud of. In a pluralistic society like the US, having a robust understanding of the spiritual aspect of the human experience allows me to add yet another layer of healing for my clients. What sets me apart from other therapists is that all of what I do for my clients, directly and indirectly, comes from this substantial idea: every human being is intrinsically valuable and it is that they exist. This philosophy affords me the ability to see every person and their past without judgement and with a truly loving heart.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Often times I encourage my clients to develop enjoyable hobbies in order to best fill in their lives with something they love doing. For me one of those hobbies is listening to music and my favorite genre is metal. I love going to live shows and getting a bit rowdy with a great crowd.
