B’Yani Knight of Rockville, Maryland on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to B’Yani Knight. Check out our conversation below.

B’Yani, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What do you think others are secretly struggling with—but never say?
What I think others are secretly struggling with but never say is the feelings of giving up on something. Whether its giving up on their hopes, dreams or even love. I think a lot of people are struggling with the grief that is felt when something you once wanted doesn’t feel obtainable anymore. People never talk about the struggle of releasing what you once wanted and perhaps accepting something different.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is B’Yani Knight, I am a creative specialist and artist. Thelifeofqueenb is what I consider a brand because it’s what I show the public, it’s where my life and my creation meet, Most of my creative endeavors are directly related to things I’ve experienced in my life. I write, paint, plan and create spaces that are a interpretation of my life. I love hosting events and showing off my creativity. Recently I had my first art show that showcased 13 canvas pieces that I’ve worked on over the last 5 years. I a, currently working on a book.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
The part of me that has served it’s purpose and now must be released is insecurity and the fear of showing myself. I’ve always dealt with both physical and mental insecurity. Showing myself or my work to others always feels like I’m in some sort of weird display case that I didn’t sign up for. I’m releasing fear of being seen because my confidence has skyrocketed. I’ve spent enough time building myself up mentally and now I don’t care what others think of me because I understand that part of living is being seen.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
One kind thing I would tell my younger self that you are beautiful and I admire how you choose to express yourself, nothing is wrong with you. Continue expressing yourself because you’ll grow up to be the bad ass you always wanted to be.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would say what matters to me is community. I believe there is sacrifices that are made for the sake of community and that’s okay. It’s worth it for me, I value human interactions and the ability to lean on each other. We need more community. This is why I’m constantly making events for everything and everyone.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What will you regret not doing?
I would regret not doing anything that I wanted to do, this is why I have the understanding that I want to do it all in this life, knowing that I can’t but I have the motivation to try.
