Brittny Johnson shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Brittny, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Trades of Brit hosted our very first official Body Cream Blending Workshop!
Back in March, I made the decision to host an event even though I had no idea what it would look like or where it would be held. I just had a strong feeling it was going to be something special.
Thanks to so many of you who encouraged me to go for it, we brought that vision to life in July and we sold out! Every attendee had an incredible time blending their own personalized body cream, and the energy in the room was unmatched.
I’m genuinely proud of myself for taking the leap. This workshop was more than just a class it was the start of something beautiful. I’m so excited for the future events and opportunities that will grow from simply saying “yes” to this one.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Brittny Johnson, founder of Trades of Brit, a natural skincare brand rooted in science and perfected with chemistry. I started this journey as a chemist and mother, driven by the need to find clean, effective solutions for my family’s dry, sensitive skin especially after having three little ones under four, including twins! When nothing on the shelves worked, I decided to create my own.
At Trades of Brit, we specialize in small-batch body care products crafted with purpose using ingredients derived from nature and backed by science. Every formula is intentional, made to nourish the skin and support your well-being. What makes us unique is the intersection of apothecary tradition, chemistry, and care each product is handcrafted with healing in mind, offering an experience that’s just as restorative as it is effective.
Right now, I’m especially excited about our new Rooted Blend Body Cream Kit, a hands-on experience that lets you connect with the art of skincare blending because self-care should be both luxurious and personal.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child, I believed that life was meant to follow a straight, predictable path. Graduate high school, go to college, land a stable job, get married, have kids, and stay in the same career forever. I thought that was the formula for success and fulfillment.
For a while, I followed that path exactly. But somewhere along the way, I realized that life isn’t meant to be linear, and neither is purpose. The career I thought I was supposed to have is no longer the one I’m in, and I’ve found joy and freedom in paving my own way, even when the road is unfamiliar.
Now I want my kids to grow up unafraid of their own shadows. I want them to know it’s okay to do the thing that scares them, to follow their curiosity, trust their creativity, and redefine success on their own terms.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear that has held me back the most is the fear of not being successful. For a long time, I measured success by society’s standards: titles, income, degrees, and milestones. I carried that pressure with me, always pushing, always striving.
But over time, I’ve learned that success isn’t something society gets to define for me. It’s something I create. It’s shaped by the values my family holds, the peace I feel in my spirit, and the legacy I’m building, not just in business, but in how I show up every day.
I’ve also come to realize that success is cyclical. There are highs and lows, seasons of building and seasons of resting. I can’t allow fear to consume me, because it robs me of the present. What matters most is staying rooted in my purpose and trusting the process, even when it looks different than I imagined.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
Is the public version of me the real me? That’s a funny question, and honestly, I’m excited to answer it. For the most part, yes, what you see is real. But I’ll admit, I think I’m way funnier than I let on, especially on Instagram. I don’t always show that side as much as I could.
What you do see, though, is my heart to serve. I care deeply about people and genuinely love showing up for others. And at my core, I’m a big family person. My love for family and service runs through everything I do, both in business and in life.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
The story I hope people tell about me when I’m gone is that I was a woman who worked hard and played hard. Someone who loved to make people laugh, who found joy in the little things, and never took herself too seriously.
Legacy, to me, isn’t just about money. I think of my grandmother she didn’t have much financially, but what she gave was priceless: love, quality time, and truth. She was honest, present, and unwavering in her care.
That’s what I strive to carry forward. Even when I can’t be there physically for my people, I do my best to show up in other meaningful ways. I hope they remember me as someone who showed up with heart, humor, and honesty.
