Brendan Dimitro of I’m fully remote. on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Brendan Dimitro and have shared our conversation below.

Brendan, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What is a normal day like for you right now?
I’m currently working from Southeast Asia, which means that I have to work from 8pm-4am to match with my company in the US. So I usually wake up at 12 and go get some coffee and lunch to start my day. I’ll then go explore wherever I am by motorbike or by foot for a few hours, take some photos and then head home. Once home I’ll either hit the pool or go to the gym, take a short nap and then start my work day!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Brendan and I’m a graphic designer and photographer originally from Phoenix, Arizona.

I’ve been working remotely for about 5 years now and have traveled all over the world. It all began after I was living and working in San Diego back in 2019. After feeling like I needed a change, I decided to move to Australia for work. On my way to Australia I stopped in Vietnam for a vacation, and during that time, covid started and I voluntarily stayed in Vietnam for most of 2020.

Regarding my work, I mostly build digital ads for both social media and website display. I’ve designed a bit of everything by now, and am currently working on a large website project for my company.

I fully embrace AI as a tool and can’t wait to see what it can help me create as it evolves!

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I was never really one to stick to societal norms. In my early 20s I moved to Chicago to live with a girlfriend and once there I started a dog walking business where I worked for the entire 6 years I lived in Chicago.

This job helped me to really grow my love for photography as I walked all around the city and would bring my camera everywhere I went. Without knowing it, photography became my gateway into graphic design.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
I think it would be a common fear, and that is the fear of judgement. Even though I’ve built a life that is completely out of the ordinary, I still feel self conscious about some things or decisions I make.

That can be tough being in an industry like graphic design where there is no “right,” answer to a problem and everyone has a different opinion on how things should look.

I’ve learned to realize that you can’t make everyone happy all the time and just try to do my best and continue to learn and push myself.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would say that the things that matter to me most are; family, freedom, and creativity.

All of these things have influenced who I’ve become today and I think they are the foundation of what I want in life.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What will you regret not doing?
I will not regret spending as much time as possible traveling the world while I can. At times it’s been tough and I’ve struggled with work at points, but overall it’s been a huge blessing.

I don’t know when I’ll settle down, or even if I will. But if it were in the US, my number one spot would be Mission Beach.
