Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa D’Amico.
Lisa, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Art has always been a peaceful place for me and growing up in New York, there were many times when I needed to escape. In my search for peace and artistic expression, I have found Arizona to often be my inspiration. I turn to painting to reveal my thoughts, to share my heart in ways that I can’t put into words. Creating gives me a platform to begin a visual conversation with my viewer and allow them to enter the slideshow in my brain. For me, being an artist is not a career, it’s a condition of the heart.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
My artwork primarily focuses on the inspirations around me. I strive to reproduce the varied facets of life through my deep fascination with color, and composition and the struggles that occur between them. After viewing my paintings, I hope people leave with new thought-provoking notions.
My creative process usually begins with a series of sketches, which I use as inspiration for my artwork on canvas, paper or printing block. My technique for the actual artwork involves building up areas of color through the application of many layers of paint, paper, latex or ink to achieve vibrant color effects and multitudes of texture.
What responsibility, if any, do you think artists have to use their art to help alleviate problems faced by others? Has your art been affected by issues you’ve concerned about?
I consider art a vehicle for social change. Art has the power to influence society by changing opinions, instilling values and translating experiences without words. Regarding my artwork, local events have the greatest effect on my paintings. Most recently, I have attended Native American gatherings and they have had a direct positive effect on my compositions.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
People can see my paintings on my website, Facebook or Instagram. My website also has a listing of current and future art exhibitions. I always appreciate support through the purchase of my paintings and posting of my website link or re-posting my social media posts.
