April Nowlin of Gilbert on Life, Lessons & Legacy

April Nowlin shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning April, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? Who are you learning from right now?
I’m learning some of my greatest life lessons from someone I never expected. My teenage daughter. Watching her navigate the world with boldness and determination has reminded me how important it is to set my own path, free from the weight of others’ expectations. She takes risks, embraces her individuality, and chases her dreams without apology, and it’s inspiring me to do the same. I’m starting to realize it’s never too late to walk with greater confidence.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a Certified Relationship Coach and Divorce Recovery Expert on a dedicated mission to help people heal from heartbreak, rediscover their worth, and create the love and relationships they deserve.
My services include transformational coaching programs and inspiring resources such as the When Love Comes podcast, where I share stories and insights to inspire women to pursue the love and life they deserve, as well as numerous eBooks.
As a three-time divorcee, I know firsthand the challenges of starting over, which is why my coaching is rooted in authenticity, resilience, and real-life experience, not just theory. What makes my work unique is the blend of practical strategies, faith-based encouragement, and honest conversations that meet people right where they are.
Right now, I’m focused on expanding my programs for couples, those dating later in life, and people who have lost a partner.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child, I was constantly being told that I talked too much, that my curiosity, questions, and endless stories were “too much” for people to handle. I was often told to quiet down or save it for later, so I learned to see my voice as something that needed to be managed.

Now, I smile at that younger version of me, because the very thing I once tried to shrink has become my greatest asset. Today, I make a living by talking to people through coaching, speaking, and podcasting. I now use my voice to encourage, challenge, and inspire. What I once saw as a flaw, I now see as a gift that was preparing me for exactly what I was called to do.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Ha! I think about quitting business at least once a month. Entrepreneurship is not for the faint of heart—there are days when the weight of responsibilities, setbacks, and uncertainty feels overwhelming. But what keeps me going are the people who need what I do. Every time I hear a client say, “You helped me see myself differently” or “I finally feel like I can move forward,” it reminds me why I started in the first place. Their breakthroughs fuel me more than any challenge can drain me.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
What you see is what you get! Transparency is one of my core values, and I’ve learned that people connect most deeply with authenticity, not perfection. What you see on social media, on a stage, on my podcast, or in my coaching is the same woman you’d meet over coffee.
I don’t believe in putting on a polished mask just to look impressive. I’d rather be real, even if it’s a little embarrassing. But that also means showing my scars and struggles. At the end of the day, my story and my willingness to be open about it gives others permission to embrace their own truth.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What will you regret not doing?
I know I will never regret fully stepping into the calling on my life. It has been a scary but deeply rewarding journey. If I played it safe or chose comfort over courage, I’d always be left with the question, “what if?” At the end of the day, I don’t want to leave this world with my potential still inside me. I don’t believe the pain of my past was in vain. I didn’t survive and come out stronger to hide. I’m meant to live boldly and use every gift placed in me.
