An Inspired Chat with Nick Koines

We recently had the chance to connect with Nick Koines and have shared our conversation below.

Nick, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I’ve been spending most of my time with my kids and using my camera to capture those memories.

I know they’re growing up fast so I want to make sure I cherish those moments.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Nick and I’m a professional photographer residing in Chandler, Arizona.I love spending time with my wife Kayla and my two beautiful children Tristan & Elle.

I’ve always had a fascination for photography at a young age and eventually I wanted to turn my passion into a business.

When you choose me to be your photographer, I promise to deliver you the most high quality images while I capture your most precious moments.

Through my lens I want to capture every detail of your story leaving you with timeless memories that you can cherish for a lifetime.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
You know, there’s something really special about having someone who believes in you completely — even when you don’t believe in yourself.

For me, that’s my wife Kayla Koines.

She’s been my biggest supporter from the very beginning. Through every idea, every risk, every long night, she’s been right there — cheering me on, keeping me grounded, and reminding me why I started. When things got hard, she never let me give up. When I doubted myself, she never did.

She’s the kind of person who loves quietly but fiercely — the kind of love that shows up in the little things, in the patience, in the faith, in the strength she gives without even realizing it.

The truth is, I wouldn’t be who I am or where I am without her. She’s not just part of my story — she is my story. And I’m endlessly grateful for the way she’s always supported me, believed in me, and stood by me through everything.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
I’ve grown up in a traditional Japanese culture my whole life and I learned at a very young age to never give up no matter what.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My friends would definitely say that my family is the most important thing to me. Friends will come and go in your lifetime but family is forever.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people say that I lived fully and loved deeply. That I chased what I was passionate about, but never lost sight of what really mattered — the people I love. I hope they say I worked hard, stayed true to myself, and made others feel seen and valued along the way. I want to be remembered as someone who showed up — for my wife, my family, my friends — and gave everything I could to the people and the work I cared about.

If, when I’m gone, people can say I made their lives a little better or their days a little lighter, that would mean everything to me.
