An Inspired Chat with Nichole Kathryn Smith of Arcadia/Old Town

We recently had the chance to connect with Nichole Kathryn Smith and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Nichole Kathryn, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
For me, integrity is everything. It’s the compass that guides my work and how I move through life. When you lead with integrity, your energy becomes authentic and sustainable. From that space, intelligence grows—not just as knowledge, but as wisdom shaped by daily interactions with your community. It’s in the way we listen, share, and show up for one another.

Integrity builds the foundation, energy carries it forward, and intelligence blossoms through those connections. Without it, energy fades and wisdom loses depth. But when integrity is your anchor, it fuels both the spark you radiate and the wisdom you gather from the people around you.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Nichole Kathryn Smith, the heart behind Nichole Kathryn Studios. At my core, I’m a portrait photographer and creative who believes in capturing more than just an image — I strive to reveal the TRUE essence of the person in front of my lens. My work blends fine art portraiture with an intuitive approach, creating experiences that help people feel truly seen, celebrated, and empowered.

What makes my brand unique is the way I weave together artistry and soul. Whether it’s through timeless portraits, community-driven projects like my upcoming “Bonds That Tie” gallery event, my intuitive healing sessions or my podcast — “The SheSpark”, my goal is always the same: to spark connection, ignite creativity, and remind people of their own beauty and purpose.

Right now, I’m especially excited about projects that honor women’s stories across generations and highlight the bonds that connect us. My work is not just about photography—it’s about creating art that tells a story and leaves a lasting impression for years to come.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I believe bonds are broken when we stop showing up as our true selves. Inauthenticity creates distance—it puts walls where there should be bridges. When we hide behind perfection or fear, the threads that tie us together begin to unravel.

But bonds are restored through vulnerability. When we allow ourselves to be honest, and genuine, we give others permission to do the same. That kind of shared humanity—the courage to be real—is what strengthens relationships and makes them unshakable.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me something success never could—that even when you’re surrounded by friends and involved in your community, you can still feel unseen. Growing up with anxiety, I often carried that quiet feeling of being invisible, even though on the outside I seemed happy and connected. Looking back, I realize that experience shaped me—it gave me the sensitivity to notice when others need to be seen for who they truly are.

That’s really what led me to portrait photography. For me, it’s not just about taking a beautiful picture—it’s about creating a space where women can feel recognized, celebrated, and valued. My own journey showed me how powerful it is to feel truly seen, and now I get to shine that light for others.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? How do you differentiate between fads and real foundational shifts?
Fads will always come and go—here for a moment and gone the next. But real foundational shifts feel different. They reach down into who you are and start to shape the way you see, create, and connect. When something aligns with the foundation you already stand on, it doesn’t just pass through—it strengthens it. Those kinds of shifts add depth and meaning, becoming part of the solid ground you can always return to.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I can say with 100% confidence that I’m doing what I was born to do. Being a natural creator has always been a part of who I am—it’s the thread that’s run through my life from the very beginning. But what makes my work meaningful isn’t just the act of creating; it’s everything I’ve had to work through along my own journey. Each layer I’ve peeled back has given me a deeper understanding of myself, and that’s shaped my mission: to help others do the same. Through my photography and intuitive abilities, I get to create spaces where people feel seen, celebrated, and reminded of their own light. That, to me, is my WHY.
