An Inspired Chat with Melanie Herschorn of North Scottsdale

Melanie Herschorn shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Melanie, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I have been doing a lot of walking. I have always shied away from exercise but walking makes me feel so good and happy.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Melanie Herschorn, founder of Big Impact Books, and I help experts turn their knowledge into a legacy. As an award-winning journalist and former publicist turned publisher, I know the power of a story well told. It can open doors, shift perceptions, and build lasting authority.

At Big Impact Books, I work with CEOs, attorneys, entrepreneurs, and thought leaders who are brilliant at what they do but often invisible outside their immediate circles. My job is to change that. I guide my clients through a streamlined process to write, publish, and promote a book that doesn’t just add to the noise but positions them as the go-to expert in their field.

What makes our approach different is that it’s not about vanity publishing or ghostwritten fluff. It’s about creating something that’s truly theirs—authentic, strategic, and aligned with their voice and business goals. We do this in a way that respects their time and elevates their brand.

Right now, I’m working with a group of incredible professionals who are finally getting the recognition, clients, and confidence they’ve earned because they have a book that proves they’re the real deal. For me, this work is about more than publishing. It’s about helping people rise. And I’m so honored to be part of that journey.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My relationship with my grandma shaped how I see myself. She just passed away at the age of 100 1/2 and I had the great fortune of having her as a support system. She believed in me even when I didn’t believe in myself. She also showed me that I could be loved for who I am not for what I do.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear of upsetting others has held me back most in my life. But I am learning that you cannot please everyone, so the best person to try to please is yourself.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
I am nothing if not authentically myself. I often say I’m an open book. Then I laugh because I love puns. I tell it like it is (always nicely), but I do not ever hide.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I would stop filling my 401K and start putting that money in the stock market!
