We recently had the chance to connect with Julian Chavez and have shared our conversation below.
Julian , we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What is a normal day like for you right now?
Right now my days have been a little rough due to me fracturing my bone spur, but at the moment I wake up, get the coffee moving for me and my fiancée and then getting ready for the day and waking our son up for school. After I take them to work and school I go to the gym and then I come home and start painting for the day. I paint for about 3 to 4 hours every day and then I spend time with my family as soon as they get out of school and work.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello, my name is Julian Chavez and I’m an artist based out of Holbrook Arizona. I currently am getting back into the art scene, for I took a brief time away to focus on some personal things in my life. I am 30 years old and I have been an artists since I was a young kid. Art has always been apart of my family, my parents, uncles, aunts, sisters, they are all creative and so I believe I was brought into it that way. Even now my fiancée has inspired me tons to get back into the art scene, she herself is creator and she is always inspiring me in more ways then she’ll ever know. I have a brand called Blooms, it’s new and still in the works but I mostly paint flowers in my own unique style. Right now I am working on a lot of new paintings that I want to sell, I’ve found my passion again and it’s been rewarding doing all of my art.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
I’d say my Uncle Duke has taught me the most about work. He’s the hardest worker I’ve ever seen and even if he wasn’t my uncle I’d still say the same. He showed me what it’s like to earn and the rewarding feeling of completing a hard task. He’s been my inspiration to continue to work my butt off my whole life. Without him I wouldn’t be the man that I am today.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Plenty of times, I believe us, as humans all have doubts at some time in our lives. When I put a lot of work into some of these pieces and they don’t move or sale or if I see any type of negative feedback I definitely get into my head and start to wonder if it’s worth it, but I believe if there wasn’t that type of feedback at times or any type of negativity I wouldn’t have become the artist that I am today. It pushes me to become better not just at art but in myself as a man. I appreciate the feedback positive and negative. My fiancée is a big reason why I haven’t given up, she’s pushed me to be creative, and not to give up on my dream of becoming an artist, and without her this interview wouldn’t be happening today.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I believe that they would say family matters the most, and as my closest friends they are part of that family. They see the work I do and the effort I give not just to myself but to my family and to them as well. I think they would say I’ve grown a lot over the last few years especially, I’ve become better not just as a friend but as a father, a man, and a spouse.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people tell the story of how I affected their lives whether it was good or bad. And through it all I hope I was respected, I hope that no matter what happens or however I impacted someone’s life, that they say I was a thoughtful and caring man and that they saw the work I put into my family and myself. Sorry it’s not much of an answer, I’ve never thought of that question until now.
