Alene A Geed of Chandler on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Alene A Geed shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Alene, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Working in the studio and listening to classical music has a calming effect on me. The designs that are in the works seem to create themselves. My tasks at the bench go smoothly. When all of these factors are in play, I can easily lose track of time. These moments stay wih me throughout the day, I love these times!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am addicted to creating jewelry designs.I started my design journey 16 years ago. I absorbed every bit of knowledge possible by taking multiple classes, reading design books and magazines and attending gem shows. My passion has never wavered. I hope you love my creations and can feel the love That I pour into each design.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
During my college years I toured Europe for 3 months. With no itinerary or individual destination in mind I bought a used car and started on my journey. During this time I learned so much about me! Seeing the different cultures, viewing the lifestyles of these countries and communities broadened my perspective on life. I returned to the USA a more confident and independent person.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
You are strong and powerful. Do not let anyone tell you otherwise

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
I know many very intelligent people that tend to rule by emotions rather than facts or truths. While it is important to listen to our gut (or our intuition), this does not coincide with emotion. The times when I get angry over some percieved wrong..I attempt to step back and look at the big picture. Often this will diffuse my anger so I can move forward. When emotion overtakes me, I make mistakes and bad decisions.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
This is an interesting concept. Being the best I can be is second nature to me now. Yes there have been times early on in my designing career that I cut corners to get a piece completed. Of course this was always a bad decision!
I tend to lean in the other direction now. If a design, when completed does not ‘sing’ to me, I will take it apart, salvage the parts that I can and start over. Even a small imperfection in my work speaks to who I am as a designer
