Art & Life with Joan Wood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joan Wood.

Joan, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I was born and raised on the outskirts of the Tonto National Forest, in Mesa, Arizona and back in 2000 resided in Flagstaff for seven years. Growing up in a family of outdoor enthusiasts they encouraged and supported my passions for snowboarding, skateboarding, camping, rock-hounding, fishing and everything I can explore in my beautiful backyard.

Camping under the darkest skies with my photog Friends chasing storms in rugged canyons and exploring the past through historic towns around our cactus state, I love to bring a journey of the Supernatural Southwest to my photos. My favorite subject in photography is to capture the most wickedest ghost towns and historic landscapes that Arizona has left standing and tell their historic stories under the stars.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
My art of photography is capturing the true nature of Arizona and it’s historical landscapes under it’s most awesome forces of nature that sometimes the eye can’t see, whether it’s out storm chasing, staying up late with the Milky Way, following the snow reports, and friendly interactions with the wildlife. I always look forward to a journey with friends on a photoshoot than a destination.

This summer I will be offering milky way, Monsoon Storm, sunset and Night Workshops. Stay tuned on my Instagram page @joanwood01, for anybody to come out with a camera and enjoy an evening out to learn the art.

How do you think about success, as an artist, and what do quality do you feel is most helpful?
Artist or hobbiest always push yourself to do or learn something new everyday! Creating on a new level, pushing yourself to limits and looking for new landscapes/horizons will keep the ideas and creativity flowing.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?

We are really enjoying having Joan’s fantastic photography displayed at our store! Her ability to capture nature in a strike of lightning or the wisps of the Milky Way is such a gift.
