Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenny Donnell.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I truly believe life is about the journey and prepares you for the next big thing in unique ways. Back in my college days, I majored in Management Information Systems and was a Marketing minor. I knew I loved computers and figuring out technology, but I also loved the psychology behind understanding what consumers need and want. After college, I spent 12 years working for a Big 4 accounting firm auditing the computer systems of Fortune 500 companies. Once kids came along, it was time to make a change to spend more time at home with my family. I ended up starting my blog, aptly named The Sensible Shopaholic, which focuses on telling my readers all about affordable shopping finds and other things we all need in our life. It’s funny because I’ve never worked harder or been more passionate about anything in my life. As it turns out, my entire career actually prepared me for success in this role. The interest to figure out web design and social media, the desire to learn photography and the love of writing and telling other people about fun products. It has been quite a journey, indeed.
Please tell us about your art.
I’m a content creator that shares accessible products and services on my blog and social media. I’ve always been one of those people who others go to for everyday advice. Whether it is a cute dress for a wedding, a dermatologist recommendation or my thoughts on the latest restaurant opening, I like to think of myself as a resource for like-minded women. We are all busy in this day and age and so I enjoy making other people’s lives easier by doing the research and sharing my genuine thoughts and reviews. Plus, I hope to keep you laughing along the way.
Given everything that is going on in the world today, do you think the role of artists has changed? How do local, national or international events and issues affect your art?
I absolutely think the role of artists has changed with everything going on in the world right now. We are all constantly bombarded with information, some good and some bad, and we’ve all started to tune out commercial advertising. That’s where influencer marketing comes into play because there is an increased value on personal recommendations. While the information overload is stressful to most, this shift in mindset has actually allowed me to follow my passion and create a platform to share my thoughts and ideas with the world. I’ve been successful at building an engaged audience who relies on me to share information and make their day to day lives slightly easier.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
My two main sources of content are created on my Instagram page (@thesensibleshopaholic), as well as my blog www.thesensibleshopaholic.com. I’m also guilty of oversharing amazing sales and everyday hilarity on my Instagram Stories, as well as my Facebook page (@thesensibleshopaholic). I’d love for you to follow along!
