Meet Deborah Bateman of Risk Blossoming in Central Phoenix

Today we’d like to introduce you to Deborah Bateman.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Deborah. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Today, I am honored to serve as the Vice Chairman of National Bank of Arizona – where I have been part of the team since 2005. However, I started my career in banking in 1971, when banking was very different than it is today. Back in the day – before I started my career, I was inspired by the community leaders that were proactively leading and engaged in my community. Ironically -or not, I discovered that they were bankers. In my heart and in my mind, I could imagine myself doing what these men were doing and making a difference. However, the hiring manager did not share my vision, and I was hired as a teller and began to build my career.

My career advanced, and it took me away from my home, for a while, to Chicago and then to New York City. But, once I re-focused on my heart and “WHY” I wanted to be a banker, I came back home to Phoenix. National Bank of Arizona called, and it has been a happily ever after. Today I am engaged in my community and making a difference. The dream was ultimately fulfilled.

But, I wanted more. And my heart spoke to me again, and today, I have embraced my passion to motivate and inspire individuals to be their authentic selves, grow personally and professionally through coaching, inner discovery, and cultural exposure. My mission is to help unleash the power within each individual, by focusing on who they are, and what they want to be. So today, I am also an entrepreneur and my business, Deborah Bateman LLC dba Risk Blossoming offers Coaching Services, Speaking Opportunities, International Wisdom Quests, and a Risk Blossoming Blog which chronicles our (My husband, Tim Bateman and my) travel adventures in our 40′ MotorCoach named BAM. We believe that we are living a life of risk blossoming – where every day we attempt to do something that will create a life that we have dreamed of.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The struggles seem so long ago. But, let me assure you that there were many lessons learned. The most important personal lesson learned was the need to be my authentic self. I spent too many years trying to please others. And, in the habit of trying to please, I lost my vision of who I wanted to be. Once, I was able to embrace my authentic self, speak with my true voice, and articulate what I wanted – the chips seem to fall into place.

Risk Blossoming – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Risk Blossoming is a Coaching Firm that provides personal branding, executive, and leadership coaching. It also facilitates an annual transformational travel opportunity, that we call Wisdom Quests. In a partnership, with Dr. J’Lein Liese, we provide an annual transformational travel opportunity for twelve women that includes cultural immersion, connection with some of the country’s women leaders, and group coaching facilitation.

In addition, we sponsor a Risk Blossoming Blog which documents our journeys in BAM, our 40′ Motorcoach. My husband, Tim Bateman is the blogger/photographer – and it is our intention to share our life on the road, so that we might inspire others to align their life with their dreams. www.riskblossoming.com

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
While I have been fortunate to receive many prestigious awards and such wonderful recognition, it has been my proudest moment to be aligned with National Bank of Arizona National Bank of Arizona is an organization whose core values align with my own. Their commitment to be a leader and make a difference in the communities, that they serve, has been my catalyst and my platform for my own community engagement and leadership.
