Today we’d like to introduce you to Todd Briggs.
Todd, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m a native of Arizona and achieved a Bachelor’s of Science in Landscape Architecture from Arizona State University in 2000. Immediately following graduation, I began working professionally at Ten Eyck Landscape Architects and remained there until that office closed its Phoenix office in the fall of 2012 to focus upon work in Texas. It was at that time that after thoughtful consideration, starting a new studio seemed the next logical step. My partner Roger Socha (also formerly of Ten Eyck) and I created TRUEFORM landscape architecture studio in November 2012 and have steadily maintained a vibrant practice with a diverse selection of work that includes higher education, hospitality, healthcare, professional sports venues, urban design and custom residential.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Having been in the design field for many years prior to starting TRUEFORM, maintaining already established relationships with clients has enabled us to continue creating comfortable and environmentally responsible urban environments as we had in years past. If there has been any struggle or challenge, it would primarily be finding the balance required to wear the many hats of a business owner. Juggling the creative design efforts which are our passion with the other often mundane but necessary aspects of running a business has certainly been an adjustment.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with TRUEFORM landscape architecture studio – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
TRUEFORM focuses upon creating meaningful and memorable places. Our work exhibits a strong commitment to utilizing regionally appropriate and enduring materials that fit texturally and cohesively within the desert southwest. Embracing purpose with beauty, our innovative and thoughtful place making encourages social interaction within comfortable, dynamic and ecological responsible landscapes.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We want to continue implementing outdoor spaces appropriate in the desert southwest which we hope helps exemplify how best to live in an arid environment, thus making Phoenix and the surrounding communities models for smart desert living.
