Thanks for sharing your story with us Stephanie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m a stay-at-home mom of two who has always had a love for writing; shortly, after my second child, I realized I needed an outlet for that passion and heyhonestlymommy.com was born! In the beginning, I meant for it to be more of a journal of sorts, a place for me to share my thoughts on motherhood and stories of my life. As it grew, it became more focused on motherhood in general and social media motherhood in specific. Today, I try to share as much information as I can about being a social media influencer to help other stay-at-home moms like me make an income on their Instagram account!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s definitely had its ups and downs. One of the reasons I started writing about social media motherhood is because there is almost no real information out there on how to become an influencer; how to grow your Instagram account, get sponsored, make money, etc. So, I decided to take that topic on myself. It’s been fun learning the “right” and “wrong” ways to do things and then sharing about it with my audience; but really, I think I’ve mainly learned there is no right or wrong way to do social media! Do what works for you and don’t let people get you down about it.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Honestly Mommy – what should we know?
I’d say my specialty now is giving inside information to other moms to help them become a “Social Media Mom”. Is that even a thing? Lol, I’m not really sure, but it’s the name the Disney uses for their event, so I figured it must have some merit. Mainly it’s a mom who uses her social media account(s) to help bring in an income for her family; whether that is through blogging, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Direct Sales, etc. really there is an almost endless list of ways you can earn an income off social media! Most people just don’t know it! So, my goal is to help others like me make the most of their accounts if they want to and make an income. I really enjoy helping others and am always willing to tell the honest truth which is I think what really sets me apart from other social media bloggers. I won’t tell you a bunch of bs that I know won’t help you; it’ll give you honest answers and as much information as I have at the moment!
So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well positioned for?
I think women are poised to break out of a lot of the stereotypes surrounding them, especially mothers! People still mostly look down on stay-at-home moms and have the attitude that we don’t do much – wrong! We are raising the next generation and there is nothing more important than that! I think social media is helping moms to be more vulnerable and real, but also to put their best foot forward and make a name for themselves even from the comfort of their home. This opportunity has not always been available to stay-at-home moms like it is right now through social media and I see a lot of moms using it to their benefit! 🙂
