Conversations with Jontai Reynolds

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jontai Reynolds.

Jontai, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey really began through me hitting rock bottom. Don’t get me wrong I had everything on the outside; the dream job, power, and influence but I still felt empty on the inside and after experiencing years of reactive abuse and feeling silenced I had to make a decision. I eventually ended up walking away from my job and immediately knew I wanted to share my story with others.

So I turned to writing. I published my first book, No One Saw Her Coming: A Story About Reactive Abuse, and then followed it with my second, The Counselor’s Curse. Through that process, I started to rebuild my confidence and wanted to start raising more awareness towards reactive abuse and uncommonly talked about issues in mental health so I created Taicorner Blogs, which evolved into a support space where others could feel seen and heard. I didn’t want to stop there, so I launched Healing Through Chaos: The Podcast with my sisters along with Healing through Chaos:The Self-Care Journal. The podcast has now became another outlet for storytelling, healing, and community.

Everything I’ve built came from a place of turning pain into purpose, creating spaces I wished I had before my journey and making sure no one feels alone while on their journey.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not. I’ve carried a multitude of hats anywhere from editor, host, content creator and executive director. I’ve also received some backlash because of my refusal to people please. I always ask the hard questions and that can make some people feel uncomfortable but I also feel that’s how we heal as a society addressing those issues that’s often swept under the rug.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I wouldn’t necessarily call it a specialization it’s more so my purpose. So I’m a podcaster, blogger, author and life longer learner. I’m here to bring people together in ways that feel real and authentic. Through every business I’ve created, including my newest podcast About HER Business, I’ve built communities that each have their own identity and space to grow.

What really sets me apart is that I give people permission to simply be themselves. You don’t need a Ph.D. or any degree to be considered an expert in my spaces. You also don’t need a million followers or a certain level of visibility to collaborate with me. None of that defines your value here.

All you need to do is show up as who you are. I’ve created environments where people don’t have to perform or put on a show they can just exist, share, and be heard. And I think that authenticity is what truly makes what I’m building different.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
With me working across different industries, I’ll break it down by each.

In mental health, one of my biggest concerns is that professionals may be unintentionally positioning themselves to be replaced by AI. We’re already seeing a shift where people feel more comfortable opening up to chatbots versus engaging in traditional therapy. That says a lot about trusting the system and also many people admit they cannot find a good therapist so they give up trying so those are some issues I see within the next few years that I hope professionals shift.

In podcasting, I see significant growth over the next five years especially in podcasts that focus on storytelling. Audiences are now craving real, lived experiences and not titles. They want depth, transparency, and relatability. Because of that, I believe storytelling podcasts will continue to expand, and more people will step into this space to share their voices and their journeys.
