Daily Inspiration: Meet Zachary Glenn Tutor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zachary Glenn Tutor.

Hi Zachary Glenn, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’m a 2nd generation artist who grew up in my father, Glennray Tutor’s, studio. His early paintings were of Arizona and New Mexico Mesas and those had a lasting impact on my artistic narrative. I spent nearly 20 years of my professional art career curating the online art magazine “Supersonic Art,” which – at its height – was the 3rd most visited art website on the planet. During that time, I was producing works made exclusively in graphite and focusing primarily on California. In 2024, I decided to switch to color and, using oil paints, began to focus on figurative and landscape works of Arizona and New Mexico.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Hmm, looking back it seems – overall – relatively smooth but I know that there were some extremely difficult times along the way which I’ve presumably blocked out of my mind. Going into something, specifically something you’re passionate about, something that you have no alternative to… you have to embrace the idea of it being difficult. The passion outweighs any obstacles you might come up to and the ability to keep going and overcoming obstacles and still loving what you’re doing is what proves to you that this is what you’re meant to be doing.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I create figurative works focusing on the Indigenous and hardworking women of the American West, whose presence has often been marginalized within traditional Western iconography. Rather than treating these figures as secondary or solely symbolic, I position them as the primary source of endurance, labor, and cultural continuity in the American West. This subject and idea is vastly underrepresented in Western painting. This alone sets my work apart from others creating in the same genre.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
Most certainly growing up with a father who was an artist was the most valuable part of my artistic journey but there are countless others who have guided me and nurtured me. My mother, my friends, my business partners, fellow artists… The list goes on and on. We’re a sum of our parts. No one is an individual.
