Rising Stars: Meet Elle Sloan of Phoenix

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elle Sloan

Hi Elle, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
When I was three years old, I was in the car with my mom and I told her when I grew up I was going to be a singer. My mom looked at me like I was off my rocker because no one in my family is a musician. I was very persistent and begged my mom and dad to put me in music lessons. Finally, when I was four they put me in a musical theater class. I was the youngest in the class, and all the kids already knew how to read. Since I couldn’t read, I would sit on my teacher’s lap, Miss Wendy and she would sing everything to me and I would listen. From that, I became ear trained. Starting ear training at a very young age has tremendously helped me with learning music and it is still how I learn to this day. The owner of the voice studio saw that I had a special gift and he urged my parents to put me in private voice lessons. When I turned seven, I started to take private voice lessons and I still do to this day at age twenty-two! I started performing at showcases starting in my musical theater class and then when I was 7, I would perform solo. Besides showcases, when I was eleven I started to gig at venues and restaurants, and I started to sing The National Anthem for sporting events. For a few years, I was constantly gigging and performing The National Anthem at sporting and musical events. I had the opportunity to sing The National Anthem for The Cubs Spring Training Game in 5th grade, and I still sing for them every spring training season. I am now about to graduate this December with my degree in Popular Music from ASU. Recently, I put out my debut country single “If He Really Meant It.” Listeners can look forward to more new music, with my second country single set to drop this November and another in January 2025, culminating in my country EP release in February 2025. For me, songwriting is a powerful form of healing, and I aim to create music that can resonate with everyone. Through my heartfelt lyrics, I seek to uplift and inspire others while embracing a raw and authentic approach to my songwriting. With each new release, I continue to carve my unique path in the music world, inviting everyone to be a part of my journey. I am fully pursuing a career as a singer-songwriter, hoping to tour the world performing and making a change with my music.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. On my 8th birthday a complete shift in how my mom acted changed. I was so confused about what was going on with my mom and I didn’t know what to do. My dad explained to me what was going on and I lost it. I thought that my mom would get better but nothing was working. Her psychiatrists couldn’t figure out how to get her back to herself. My grandma had to move in with us and take care of my little sisters and me for a year. There were many times when my mom would explain that she didn’t want to live and I didn’t know if she would make it. This was a very trying time in my life and I greatly relied on music. My second-grade teacher, Ms Gee knew what was going on with my mom and she would always comfort me with playing The Beatles. She knew how much I loved music and anytime she saw me struggling in class she would turn The Beatles on and it helped me calm down. Music is what got me through my mom’s battle and I don’t know what I would’ve done without it. This time solidified for me that I wanted to help others through music like music helped me heal.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in performing and songwriting. I am known for always wearing sparkly cowgirl boots on stage! I am also known for doing country music. I am most proud of singing the National Anthem for the Cardinal’s Pre-Season opening game this August. I am unique because I am very true to who I am. What you see is what you get from me. My songwriting is authentic. I write about what happens in my life.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I like how there is so much to do. There are tons of great restaurants, shopping, activities, local businesses, and the music scene is growing! I dislike the hot weather and the cost of living increasing.
