Today we’d like to introduce you to Nakia Walker
Hi Nakia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey began in my youth, marked by a difficult upbringing. At the young age of 18, I embraced motherhood, and at 19, I married my oldest child’s father. As I navigated through life, I excelled in the field of business administration, securing positions in law schools, law firms, and various executive roles. Not only did I channel my administrative expertise into my professional endeavors, but also into managing my daughter’s entertainment career. At just 5 years old, she made her debut performance at Phoenix College, eventually gaining widespread recognition as “Baby T.”
My journey led me to a role as a Performing Arts Teacher for the Career Success Charter School District, later transitioning to Assistant Principal. During this time, I collaborated with Marshea Green and the Ghetto Government dance crew to create and produce three musical stage productions. In 2006, I welcomed another child into the world, a baby boy! In 2009, I faced a critical decision point – the opportunity to manage the legendary Earl “DMX” Simmons. I chose to leave the school district to manage Earl, forming Built for War Management with a partner.
Concurrently managing Earl and my daughter, I drew upon my administrative, negotiation, and management skills. While serving intermittently as Earl’s manager, his untimely passing in April 2021 deeply impacted me. Tragically, in 2023, my daughter, then known as “TaeDoe Baby,” also passed away.
Despite these immense losses, I persisted, publishing three books and co-writing, directing, and producing my first film with my daughter with the professional help of Infokus Media and Beautiful Minds Group. Alongside the challenges, I celebrated the arrival of two grandchildren and saw my youngest off to college. These experiences reshaped my life, guiding me towards a new focus – supporting others in achieving a successful, balanced, and healthy lifestyle.
Grieving remains a profound challenge, yet I recognize the need to forge ahead to nurture my aspirations into reality. Today, my work revolves around real estate ventures, my mediation practice, natural products, and motivating others through seminars, panels, and workshops. While the journey is arduous, I remain committed to aiding others to manage their lives more effectively.
In essence, Nakia Walker, LLC embodies the principles of M8 (M-to the 8th power) as I have just applied for the trade name Sol M8 (Soul Mate) because I am a Mother, Mediator, Manager, Minister, Motivator, Mentor, Musician,& Mixologist of healthy drinks & skin topicals. I’m essence, I am to be impactful in all that I do to make the world a better place, one relationship or idea at a time!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I definitely did not have it easy. There were no smooth roads – only hills and mountains to climb. Choosing to marry the wrong person played a huge part in my decision making. However, again I still needed to press forward as I had so many goals. Other struggles included being laid off from my job, having to become my child’s guardian, losing said child and then sending one off to college, yet still having to endure life!
The obstacles are only detours for me – not road blocks. It hasn’t been easy, yet I have to keep going
As you know, we’re big fans of Nakia Walker, LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I made the decision to establish Nakia Walker, LLC as an ode to owning my own name. Under this umbrella, my skin care product line, mediation practice, and various creative ventures find a home.
My expertise lies in management – be it artist management, departmental management, or any other form. While motherhood remains my greatest source of pride, my skin care line holds a special place as it has been meticulously tested for two years, proving to yield tangible results. The essence of Nakia Walker, LLC lies in focusing solely on what works for others, seeking to foster positivity, transformation, and enriching experiences for all.
While some may claim I can do it all, that’s not entirely true. Despite my proficiency with tools like a circular saw and drill, I acknowledge my limitations. However, I invite you to reach out and explore how I can support you. From herbal teas and natural juices to mediation services, motivational speaking, and talent management, my upcoming office opening by end of quarter 2025 will serve as a hub for these diverse offerings.
What were you like growing up?
During my upbringing, I embraced my identity as a young intellect with a passion for education. School was a place of joy for me, and I found particular fulfillment in playing the clarinet, achieving the 1st chair position. While navigating the streets of Detroit presented its challenges, my charismatic demeanor and a blend of pleasantness and resilience guided me through those formative years.
The invaluable lessons in hustle and entrepreneurship instilled in me by my mother have left a lasting impression. These skills have become an integral part of my being, equipping me to navigate the complexities of life. My early interest in music manifested through activities such as singing, songwriting, dancing, and recording my compositions, reflecting my deep-rooted passion for the art form. Had I not been through, I would have never been able to get to where I am today or become the person I am today and I always drive to be better than the day before.
