Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Sheerer
Hi Sarah, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have always had a spirit of adventure and creativity, which led me to have a love for trying new restaurants and exploring different areas.
I grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, which has grown immensely throughout my 25 years of life, especially on the restaurant and art fronts. So many fun, eclectic, local restaurants have placed their roots in Pittsburgh over the past 20 years, adding to the deep sense of community and togetherness that the city of Pittsburgh has always had.
Growing up in the kind of environment that cultivates community and promotes local restaurants brought me to love trying new cuisines and exploring.
My passion for photography began in high school thanks to my AP Photography teacher, Amy Wickman, who pushed me to think creatively and outside the box. The combination of my love for photography and love for food exploration led me to food photography and to create a food Instagram.
I find so much joy in using my Instagram platform, @sarahs.tummy, to promote local businesses and share cooking recipes. The foodie community is fueled by positivity and community, which are values that I hold close to my heart.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Honestly, it has been a pretty smooth road for me as I run the food Instagram for fun, joy and entertainment for myself and to provide that to others.
I love going out to eat and cooking, so taking photos of my food adventures and sharing them is an added bonus!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My day job is working as a Business Development & Marketing Specialist. In this position, I do a bit of everything – graphic design, social media, networking, marketing, public relations, data analytics, copywriting, and more.
I consider my strengths to be my ability to connect with others, social media management and graphic design. I love making ideas come to life, whether it be for work, my food and personal social media platforms, or in my home.
I am most proud of my open-minded approach to life, optimizing my ability to create lived, memorable experiences. I think this mindset translates greatly into my work as I’m willing to take risks and be adventurous with my design. My hunger for experiencing as much as possible motivates me to wake up every morning and learn more about my community.
I consider these attributes to set me apart from others because not much holds me back from trying new things.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I have learned along my journey is to listen to yourself and block out the opinions of others. In the past, fearing judgment has stopped me from being as adventurous, therefore limiting my potential experiences.
Granted, I still let the opinions of others get to me at times – but this typically has not worked in my favor. Trusting my own judgment and creativity has brought me so much happiness in the past year or so.
Be who your 12-year-old self always dreamed of – at least try to be. That keeps me going every day.
