Today we’d like to introduce you to Shelby Underwood.

Shelby Underwood

Hi Shelby, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Shelby is a second-generation Realtor who combines her love for the industry with her passion for writing and marketing. After graduating from Arizona State University with a degree in Journalism, she started her career in real estate in 2006 as a marketing assistant for a high producing real estate team. She’s now a leading agent and multi-million dollar producer representing buyers and sellers as a member of the Perspective Real Estate Group, as well as a short-term rental owner.

She also continued to pursue her love for dance as a professional cheerleader, beginning as a member of the Arena Football League’s (now IFL) Arizona Rattlers’ Sidewinders Dance Team. During her time as a member of the Sidewinders, she was named captain, performed at Arena Bowl XXII and was also a contributing choreographer. Shelby remained part of the organization as an alum and performed in the NFL Super Bowl XLIX Halftime Show. After her time with the Sidewinders, Shelby went on to become a member of the Arizona Cardinals Cheerleaders, where she had the privilege of cheering for three seasons.

As a member of the Cardinals Cheerleaders, she assisted with their junior cheer program, participated in community appearances, and traveled overseas as a representative and a part of game day entertainment for the Cardinals’ London game. She also represented the team traveling to Singapore and Diego Garcia, performing at events for our United States military. She currently enjoys continuing to assist the Cardinals Cheerleaders on game days as a line assistant.

After her time as a Cardinals Cheerleader, Shelby was hired back by the Rattlers as the Sidewinders Director, where she is currently in her fifth season coaching. Her core values for the program include empowering performers to achieve their goals on and off the field, while representing the team and organization with professionalism and connecting with fans and the community. In 2023, the Sidewinders were given the honor of being voted the “IFL’s Best Dance Team”.

Shelby Underwood greatly appreciates all the experiences and connections that have come with these opportunities. She currently resides in Gilbert with her husband Josh who also works in residential real estate and guides climbs all over the world for a travel company and non-profit foundation. During the off-season they enjoy traveling and adventure, most recently climbing Mt. Fuji in Japan.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When I reflect back on the struggles along the way, I remember these are times where the most personal and professional growth happened.

I didn’t make the first professional dance team I auditioned for, which was disappointing but drove me to work harder to accomplish that goal and when I achieved it-to not take it for granted.

Regarding the real estate industry it is constantly changing, so over my 15 years in the business I have had to learn and evolve. No two transactions are the same, I have to continue to want to learn and gain experience.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
On the real estate side, I am proud to be a part of my clients’ homeownership goals and life’s big moments. It is something I take very seriously and I want to make sure to provide great service every step of the way.

As a professional dance team Director, I am grateful for my team and the continued success of our program. Our team members are great representatives of the organization on and off the field. We want to continue to cultivate a positive, hard working environment while doing what we love.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I do believe opportunities happen by chance, but I want to be prepared for them and have the confidence to contunue to pursue them and push myself outside of my comfort zone.
