Today we’d like to introduce you to Olga Karina Godoy.
Olga Karina, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am a dreamer, literally I always say I’m just a dreamer living the dream. My name is Olga Godoy and I’m 35 years young I always had these crazy ideas of creating funny videos, making people laugh, always the life of the party and obviously loved the attention I knew I was different. I grew up watching Jackass & SNL and Carlos Mencia the idea of becoming a comedian crossed my mind, One day I searched up how to become a famous comedian and this class popped out in Scottsdale I immediately enrolled online & went on my first class of Comedy. Although classes were fun & I met cool people there I still felt like I wasn’t full filling my comedy itch, something was missing. The fact that these classes were molding me into a comedian that would appeal to that comedy club in particular did not fit with me. After performing for that club a few times I decided to leave, I went on an adventure of seeking my style of comedy. It didn’t take me long to find Arizonas Comedy Life and it was the best thing that ever happened to me. I started doing small gigs and in time I was finding my own style of comedy after so many times I bombed on stage. One of my first big gigs was Latin Laughs at Stir Crazy Comedy Club run by Lamar Mitchell J.R a great comedian, host & honored to call my friend. We then started to work together and Latin Laughs 2 & 3 were a success! Along with Lamar I was able to create Latin Ladies Comedy Show an all Women’s comedy, the show was a success at The House of Comedy everything seemed to be going well but just when we finally started getting attention the pandemic striked and our comedy adventures were put on hold. During the pandemic I began to create funny content on all social media, if everyone was home & on their phones this was a perfect time to have people watch my content. All the comedy clubs were shut down so the only way to pursue comedy was through videos on social media and I must say I love creating. Fast forward to now & the comedy life is back to normal! I been doing shows non stop from The House of Comedy to CB Live! I’ve worked with some of my childhood comedians like Jeff Garcia it was an honor working with him I’ve met quite a few famous comedians which have been super humble and given me advice. I continue to do stand up comedy & creating funny content hoping to one day make it to the big screen because that’s the goal. I did a show at the House of Comedy called Shoot Your Shot and I met my partner in crime Juan Arechiga aka Laugh at Archie it was instant click & we have been putting our brains together to create content. I’ve never met anyone who wanted to pursue comedy like me! Where I go he goes, we watch out for each other and support each other.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I was recently separated when I started comedy in 2018 so finding myself was a difficult time for me. I was very overweight and that alone sometimes would hold me back from getting on stage because I lacked confidence. I was very shy at the beginning so finding comedy was the best thing that happened to me, I hated how I look on pictures when people tag me on social media I would delete it. I knew I had to make changes so I began my fit journey, I’ve lost 50lbs total and I’m more confident on stage. Another obstacle I faced was the pandemic, I was a frontline healthcare worker and my job was always short staff meaning I sometimes worked 7 days a week over 12hour shifts. Working on covid units & always on isolation took a toll on me mentally. I overworked to the point of burning myself out on my job and after working in healthcare for sometime I took a break back in February & I haven’t worked since. Self care is very important, you are replaceable at work and my family needed me home. Definitely not working allowed me to fully focus on comedy now and I don’t regret leaving my job. It’s never too late to go for your dreams.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a stand up comedian/content creator. My style of Comedy is dark but hilarious. From motherhood stories to dating life but the coolest thing is the dark humor in it, you never know what’s going to come out of my mouth and it will leave you shocked and not knowing whether to laugh or feel sorry for me which I find amusing. I’m also known for my crazy TikToks I tend to do videos of things girls go through but I also keep up with the trending videos. I’m not afraid of making a fool out of myself or getting into a character for a video. I like to show my true self, one day I could be glammed up for a show & the next day I could post a video no makeup looking dead but my fans love that about me, I’m truly an open book to them.
What does success mean to you?
Success is finding what makes you happy and not saying I work for a living but instead saying I do what I love and live it everyday.
