Today we’d like to introduce you to Baylee Pfister.
Baylee, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I grew up an athlete, I was always playing some type of sport. I continued on to be a collegiate athlete at Northern Arizona University. I was on the competitive cheer team and won a national title in 2014, then retired from the sport.
Without sports, I knew I had to stay active and begin going to the gym frequently. I did not truly know what I was doing or how to exercise properly. What was happening is I was overtraining and under-eating. I was at an unhealthy weight and still felt unsatisfied with my physical appearance. I went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Public Health. I now had the information I needed to achieve and sustain a healthy lifestyle. The more I went to the gym, the more and more I got asked if I would compete in a bodybuilding show. After a couple of years of debating, I decided to go for it. I met Tim Sparks, my coach, at Die Had gym and he prepped me in about five months. I still continue to train with my coach Tim, because even coaches need coaches!
After graduation, I taught group fitness classes, but I came to realize I had more to offer people. I wanted my relationships with the clients to be more than just inside the gym. I wanted them to hear my voice in the kitchen and on their days off telling them to stay on track. I am no longer a bodybuilder, but an all-natural powerlifter. I hold seven state records in the 132lb weight class here in Arizona. I love lifting heavy and it is my mission to get a pair of weights in every person’s hands.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There were multiple struggles to get where I am today. I went into college not really knowing what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I knew I want to provide health services, I just didn’t know how. I set my eye on becoming an Occupational Therapist and volunteered my time like crazy. I thought I had the perfect resume but was denied acceptance into graduate school.
I felt like I was at a dead-end and had no clue where I wanted to go. At this point, I was still active in the gym, but my lifestyle choices were very unhealthy. I was young and just wanted to party with friends. After my coach Tim told me how much potential I had in the sport of powerlifting, I got serious with my nutrition and training. Not only did I see amazing results, but I had more confidence than ever. To feel comfortable in your own skin is a feeling every man and woman should achieve.
