Meet Jennifer Emperador of Sol Discovery in Tempe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Emperador.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jennifer. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
After leaving another abusive relationship I knew something had to change and that was me. After being diagnosed with C-PSTD I realized the many years of fighting anxiety and depression along with my chronic health ailments, attraction towards toxic relationships and addictions were all symptoms of the many years of trauma that were never addressed.

I made some radical changes from the inside out. It wasn’t easy at the beginning. When you start reflecting on your life, the choices you’ve made and where you are present, you tend to question if you like who you are. However, I was committed to changing my life for the better which meant I had to alter my lifestyle and devote a lot of my time for some major inner work. I quit my corporate job to do some soul searching. I knew I wanted to make a difference and my life experiences had something to contribute to my life’s work. There was a lot of pressure to figure out my life fast. People were uncomfortable with the idea that I wasn’t working. I was feeling guilty and then came to the realization that I have been working since I was 13 years old and have never taken time to heal. After that awareness, I stopped apologizing for how I was showing up. I needed to invest in me! I got into meditation which eventually led me down the path of yoga, yoga nidra, sound healing, hypnotherapy, EFT, breath work and several energy modalities. As we all know healing can be messy. I noticed the more I let go the more freedom I gained. The changes were extremely obvious to my family and friends. Everything shifted in my life! This new sense of freedom became the fuel I needed to create my business Sol Discovery. Ultimately, all these gave me. It was gloriously messy and freeing all at the same time.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The life of an entrepreneur is definitely not an easy road but it’s the most satisfying and rewarding experience. I was struggling with some self-doubt and felt overwhelmed with business logistics. I knew I wanted my business to grow organically and authentically. I was a little timid to share my life experiences, fearful of what others would think. In time I realized that sharing my story was the medicine. It served as a gateway for others to share their own experiences and find ways to heal as well. The more authentic and transparent I am, the more my clients showed up the same way. It also opened up new opportunities that I hadn’t thought possible. I’m so focused on up-leveling my business that I find that I need more balance in my professional life. I recommend that as a healing practitioner you integrate a lot of self-care so that you can fully thrive. I am a big fan of yoga, meditation, journaling, hiking, acupuncture and massages. Also, I practice a day of silence once a month. This means no technology or communication. It’s a beautiful way to get in touch with who you are peacefully and lovingly.

Please tell us about your business.
My business name is in tribute to my soul sister and friend. Earlier in my healing journey, she would call me every day and address me as “Sister of Love” which then carried through my business name, Sol Discovery. As a Trauma-Sensitive Practitioner, my mission is to guide survivors of abuse in the discovery of their resilient spirit, self-worth and wholeness. I help my clients reclaim their lives through the integration of emotional regulation, breathwork, yoga, hypnotherapy, EFT, sound healing, mindfulness, energy work, inner child healing and somatic psychotherapy techniques.

I am known for my heart-centered approach and ability to connect with my clients on a deep level. For someone who is dealing with trauma or PTSD, creating a safe and sacred space for them to be fully seen allows them to get in touch with their wholeness and recognize they are not defined by their past. I want them to know that they are not alone and that it is possible to create a life they are truly seeking.

Oprah, one of my favorite public figures once said, “Turn your wounds into wisdom.” That touched me on a soul level. I am proud to say on both a personal and professional level I find ways to seek the wisdom in my experiences so that I can be a better practitioner and an empowered and loving individual. The same modalities that I use with my clients, I implement in my personal life as well. In other words, I practice what I preach! I am an avid learner and always in search of new tools to heal trauma and gain new perspectives of the latest research so that I can continue living my life’s work.

I’m so grateful to be surrounded by so many healing practitioners in the valley and honor them in their individuality and as I do of my own. I have lived through a vast of traumatic events and find that I can relate to my clients because of my life experiences. I’m also proud to say that I’ve had the opportunity to reach the lives of so many people through large forums. I was part of a panel discussing domestic violence in the city of Phoenix with City Councilman Sal DiCiccio. Recently, I had the opportunity to present at the City of Phoenix Headstart annual conference where I discussed how trauma affects children and tools to help them regulate.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I hope that I continue to support and educate others on the effects of trauma in large forums and also in my private practice as well. I’m in the planning stages for several workshops, retreats and some online curriculum to help others who have experienced trauma or PTSD.
